It is Luxeuil, the afternoon sun is still streaming in, but I've just been pulled into a much colder, more unsettling headspace. I've been sitting here with the new track from Ashen Horde, and honestly... it's left my chest feeling tight in that way only really dense, shapeshifting metal can.

Nous sommes à Luxeuil, le soleil de l'après-midi entre encore par la fenêtre, mais je viens d'être aspiré dans un espace mental bien plus froid et dérangeant. Je suis resté là avec le nouveau morceau d'Ashen Horde, et honnêtement… ça m'a serré la poitrine, de cette façon que seul un metal vraiment dense et caméléon peut le faire.

This Los Angeles collective has always been a bit of a chameleon, but their new single "Entropy and Ecstasy" feels like a major evolution. It's the first taste of their fifth album, The Harvest, which is set to drop on May 1st. This track is a whirlwind of jagged, technical riffs that remind me of that angular Voivod style, but it's anchored by their new vocalist, Karl Chamberlain. His range is... uh... well, it's staggering, moving from bone-chilling screams to soaring melodic hooks that actually gave me a physical shiver when he hit the line about thriving while expecting to survive.

Ce collectif de Los Angeles a toujours été un peu caméléon, mais leur nouveau single « Entropy and Ecstasy » semble être une évolution majeure. C'est le premier aperçu de leur cinquième album, The Harvest, qui doit sortir le 1er mai. Ce morceau est un tourbillon de riffs techniques et déchiquetés qui rappellent le style angulaire de Voivod, mais il est ancré par leur nouveau chanteur, Karl Chamberlain. Sa palette est… euh… enfin, elle est renversante, passant de cris glaçants à des mélodies ascendantes qui m'ont littéralement fait frissonner quand il a frappé la ligne sur le fait de prospérer tout en s'attendant à survivre.

What's wild is that even though they've been a studio-driven project for a decade, the music video for this track is the first time the members have ever actually appeared on camera together. You can feel that weird, fresh energy in the performance. The song itself explores the idea of finding a strange kind of exhilaration in collapse, thriving while the world falls apart, which is a pretty heavy concept to digest while the sun is shining outside.

Ce qui est fou, c'est que même s'ils sont un projet de studio depuis une décennie, le clip de ce morceau est la première fois que les membres apparaissent ensemble à l'écran. On sent cette énergie étrange et fraîche dans la performance. La chanson elle-même explore l'idée de trouver une étrange exaltation dans l'effondrement, prospérer pendant que le monde s'écroule, ce qui est un concept assez lourd à digérer alors que le soleil brille dehors.

The album was mixed and mastered at the legendary Fascination Street Studios, and you can hear that professional polish holding the chaos together. They're even preparing to take this madness on the road for their first-ever live shows in May. If the rest of the eight tracks are as unpredictable as this one, shifting between black metal fury and prog-weirdness, we're in for one of the most adventurous releases of the year.

L'album a été mixé et masterisé aux légendaires Fascination Street Studios, et on sent ce poli professionnel qui maintient le chaos ensemble. Ils se préparent même à emmener cette folie sur la route pour leurs tout premiers concerts en mai. Si les huit autres morceaux sont aussi imprévisibles que celui-ci, passant de la furie black metal à l'étrangeté progressive, on va avoir droit à l'une des sorties les plus aventureuses de l'année.

This isn't just background music; it's the kind of record that demands you stay present for every jarring twist and turn. Je vais avoir besoin d'un moment pour laisser mon pouls se calmer avant de lancer autre chose.
