The first thirty seconds of Out of Phase hit with this weird, disjointed energy that shouldn't work on paper, but somehow feels exactly right. I was halfway through a message when the lead track kicked in, and I just... stopped. It's like PHASERIP decided to take the rulebook for modern metal and throw it into a shredder.

J'étais en train d'écrire un message quand le premier morceau a démarré, et je me suis juste… arrêté. C'est comme si PHASERIP avait décidé de prendre le manuel du metal moderne et de le jeter dans un destructeur de documents.

Now, here is the crazy part: this isn't just a local band. It's a cross-continental project led by Fresno-based Jawsh Willis, with a drummer and vocalist recording from Poland. PHASERIP just dropped their debut full-length, and it's a trip through an alternate reality. Think the eccentricity of System of a Down mixed with the heavy, melodic grime of Soundgarden and Faith No More.

Le truc de ouf : ce n'est pas juste un groupe local. C'est un projet transcontinental mené par Jawsh Willis (basé à Fresno), avec un batteur et un chanteur qui enregistrent depuis la Pologne. PHASERIP vient de sortir son premier album, et c'est un voyage dans une réalité alternative. Imagine l'excentricité de System of a Down mélangée au crasse lourd et mélodique de Soundgarden et Faith No More.

The sound is thick, hugely cinematic and layered with these crushing, drop-tuned riffs. I actually had to hit replay when the vocals shifted from melodic hooks to that extreme edge... okay, wait, I didn't just hit replay; I ended up scouring the guest list to see who was behind those screams (turns out it's a global roster featuring everyone from Finnish death metal vocalists to Japanese shredders).

Le son est épais, énormément cinématographique et stratifié avec des riffs graves et écrasants. J'ai dû appuyer sur replay quand la voix est passée des mélodies accrocheuses à ce côté extrême… enfin, je n'ai pas juste appuyé sur replay ; j'ai fini par éplucher la liste des invités pour voir qui était derrière ces hurlements (il s'avère que c'est un casting mondial, avec des vocalistes finlandais de death metal et des shredders japonais).

"Diverse" isn't the right word. It's world-building. « Diversifié » n'est pas le bon mot. C'est de la construction d'un monde.

The album follows the story of a man ripped into another dimension, a mascot they call "Phaser Phil", and you can really feel that sense of isolation and displacement in the music. I think my neighbors are probably wondering why the walls have been vibrating to a Black Sabbath cover for the last hour (their tribute to Ronnie James Dio is a monster).

L'album suit l'histoire d'un homme arraché à sa dimension, une mascotte qu'ils appellent « Phaser Phil », et on ressent vraiment ce sentiment d'isolement et de déplacement dans la musique. Je pense que mes voisins se demandent pourquoi les murs vibrent sur une reprise de Black Sabbath depuis une heure (leur hommage à Ronnie James Dio est monstrueux).

If you've ever felt like you've "woken up in the wrong universe," as Jawsh puts it, this record is going to hit a nerve immediately. It's independent, it's raw, and it's one of the most creative debut albums I've heard in 2026. No joke.

Si tu as déjà eu l'impression de t'être « réveillé dans le mauvais univers », comme le dit Jawsh, cet album va toucher un nerf immédiatement. C'est indépendant, brut, et c'est l'un des premiers albums les plus créatifs que j'aie entendus en 2026. Sans déconner.
