I was just finishing up a long session of listening to new demos when I stumbled upon Sons of Kali. Honestly, when I see a band that only formed in 2024, I usually expect them to still be finding their feet. But these guys from Puerto Rico sound like they've been playing together in a dark basement for a decade.

Honnêtement, quand je vois un groupe formé seulement en 2024, je m'attends généralement à ce qu'ils cherchent encore leurs marques. Mais ces gars de Porto Rico sonnent comme s'ils jouaient ensemble dans une cave sombre depuis une décennie.

Their new single, "Bloodshed," is a brutal preview of what's coming on their debut album. They describe themselves as "blackened death metal," and that's spot on. It's got that aggressive, suffocating weight you want from death metal, but with a sharp, cold edge that definitely leans into the "blackened" side of things.

Leur nouveau single, « Bloodshed », est un aperçu brutal de ce qui nous attend sur leur premier album. Ils se décrivent comme du « blackened death metal », et c'est tout à fait ça. Il a ce poids agressif et suffocant qu'on attend du death metal, mais avec un tranchant froid et acéré qui penche clairement du côté « blackened ».

The production on this track is surprisingly crisp: it was recorded at Island Recording Studios and mixed by Christian Rodriguez. Sometimes with extreme metal, the mix can turn into a muddy mess, but here you can actually hear the intricate work between guitarist Fabian Milian and bassist Diego Garcia. It's fast, it's heavy, and it doesn't apologize for any of it.

La production sur ce morceau est étonnamment nette : il a été enregistré aux Island Recording Studios et mixé par Christian Rodriguez. Parfois avec l'extreme metal, le mix peut devenir un bordel boueux, mais ici on peut vraiment entendre le travail complexe entre le guitariste Fabian Milian et le bassiste Diego Garcia. C'est rapide, lourd, et ça ne s'excuse de rien.

What really stands out to me is the rhythm section. Elier Bonilla on drums provides a relentless backbone that lets vocalist Sebastian Sousa really lean into those deeper, more aggressive growls. They've already dropped three singles, and if "Bloodshed" is the benchmark, that debut album is going to be a massive statement for the Puerto Rican scene. Ce qui ressort vraiment pour moi, c'est la section rythmique. Elier Bonilla à la batterie fournit une colonne vertébrale implacable qui permet au chanteur Sebastian Sousa de vraiment s'enfoncer dans ces growls plus profonds et agressifs. Ils ont déjà sorti trois singles, et si « Bloodshed » est la référence, ce premier album va être une déclaration massive pour la scène portoricaine.

If you're in the mood for something that's going to make you want to break furniture, this is your soundtrack. It's raw, it's professional, and it's unapologetically extreme.
