POLISH MODERN METALCORE UNIT DELIVERS A HEAVY, SYNTH‑DRIVEN GROOVE THAT HITS HARD
To be completely honest, I approached "Painkiller" with a fair bit of caution. On paper, mixing modern metalcore with heavy synth layers often ends up sounding over‑produced, like a band trying too hard to follow the current Sleep Token or Northlane trend. I hit play on the lyric video fully expecting the electronics to overpower everything. But halfway through the track, I realized I wasn't even thinking about the synths anymore: I was just completely locked into the bass dynamic. The electronic textures don't sit on top of the track like a gimmick; they give the rhythm section a dark, continuous drive that makes the whole thing roll fast and heavy.
Pour être tout à fait honnête, j'ai abordé « Painkiller » avec une certaine prudence. Sur le papier, mélanger du metalcore moderne avec des couches de synthé lourdes donne souvent un son surproduit, comme un groupe qui essaie trop de suivre la tendance actuelle de Sleep Token ou Northlane. J'ai lancé le lyric video en m'attendant à ce que l'électronique domine tout. Mais à la moitié du morceau, j'ai réalisé que je ne pensais même plus aux synthés : j'étais complètement accroché à la dynamique de la basse. Les textures électroniques ne se superposent pas au morceau comme un gadget ; elles donnent à la section rythmique une impulsion sombre et continue qui fait avancer l'ensemble rapidement et lourdement.

When the main breakdown landed, it didn't feel like a forced break in the song just to check a metalcore box. It felt earned. The transition between the vocals and the clean hook didn't break the pace either, which is rare enough in this subgenre to be worth highlighting. I ended up looping the track in a row just to figure out why that groove was sticking in my head. For a band that's only been around since late 2023, Serpents aren't just copying a modern template: they actually know how to write a song that moves.
Quand le breakdown principal est arrivé, il n'a pas semblé être une pause forcée dans la chanson juste pour cocher la case metalcore. Il semblait mérité. La transition entre les voix et le refrain clair n'a pas non plus cassé le rythme, ce qui est assez rare dans ce sous‑genre pour mériter d'être souligné. J'ai fini par passer le morceau en boucle plusieurs fois pour comprendre pourquoi ce groove restait dans ma tête. Pour un groupe qui n'existe que depuis fin 2023, Serpents ne se contente pas de copier un modèle moderne : ils savent vraiment écrire une chanson qui bouge.
