Festival Announcement Spotlight: POWER & STEEL WINTER FESTIVAL 2027
HELSINKI GETS A NEW WINTER FESTIVAL DEDICATED TO POWER AND TRADITIONAL HEAVY METAL
When a brand‑new festival launches with a promise to go "high and hard right from the beginning," promoters usually mean they've booked a couple of local cover bands and an aging headliner. But looking at the initial wave for the inaugural Power & Steel Winter Festival, hitting The Cable Factory on November 5–6, 2027, organizer Niko Viherlaiho isn't messing around. Set inside The Cable Factory in Helsinki, this indoor two‑day event aims to address a long‑standing gap in the Finnish scene. While Finland has no shortage of summer open‑air festivals and extreme metal events, a dedicated winter festival focused on power and traditional heavy metal has been missing, forcing local fans to travel abroad to events like Denmark's Epic Fest.
The first lineup announcement makes good on that promise. Brazilian power metal act ANGRA and British NWOBHM group Tygers Of Pan Tang will both make their Finnish debuts at the festival. US heavy metal group Virgin Steele is on board as well, alongside Fabio Lione's Dawn Of Victory. Add in modern acts like Seven Spires and Power Paladin, plus a solid local contingent including Metal De Facto and Dreamtale, and the initial lineup holds up remarkably well. With over twenty acts expected across the weekend and half the bill still to be revealed over the winter, it's a solid start for a first edition. If the second half of the bill keeps this momentum, Helsinki might have a new regular autumn fixture.
