HYSTERIA is a Lyon-based Death/Black metal band formed in 1996. In January 2002, they released their first 4-track EP "Abyssal Plains of Chaos" on the label INFERNAL WAVES. The band has performed at various concerts, including opening for well-known groups such as Mortician, Behemoth, and Dissection. Their first LP "Haunted by Words of Gods" was released in May 2006 on the label ADIPOCERE RECORDS. The cover and artwork for the album were created by the renowned G-R-A-A-L (BEHEMOTH, VILE, HATE, ENTHRONED...). This album helped establish the band as a force in French death metal.
In parallel to promoting "Haunted by Words of Gods" through concerts in France, HYSTERIA continued to write new music. The new songs were more direct, faster, and more extreme, while still maintaining their unique roots. In May 2009, HYSTERIA signed with the label TRENKILL RECORDINGS and released "When Believers Preach Their Hangman's Dogma" in October 2009. The artwork was created by the famous artist SETH-SIRO-ANTON.
From 2010-2011, the band performed concerts across France, including a tour with the Black/Death band BLISS OF FLESH. In early 2015, the band began recording their new album "Flesh, Humiliation and Irreligious Deviance," which was mixed at the famous Lyon studio AMPHORE STUDIO and mastered by Brett Caldas-Lima at Tower Studio. The artwork was once again created by SETH-SIRO-ANTON.
"Flesh, Humiliation and Irreligious Deviance" was released in March 2016 on the label Great Dane Records. The release party was a success and marked the band's comeback after not releasing an album for 7 years. In 2017, HYSTERIA performed several concerts in France with the band SOUTH OF HELL. In September 2017, Thibault left the band and was quickly replaced by Adrien, a long-time friend. This new addition gave the band renewed energy and they began composing new music and preparing a new live set.
In November 2018, the band decided to return to the studio and organized an anniversary concert in Lyon. It had been 20 years since the band's first performance. They released an EP entitled "From The Abyss... To The Flesh" on the label ADIPOCERE RECORDS. The EP included 3 new songs and 3 tracks recorded during their SYLAK OPEN AIR 2015 performance. The label also re-released their first album "Haunted by Words of Gods" on vinyl.
After some performances in 2019 and 2020, the band's progress was hindered by the COVID crisis.
The band is focused on composing their new EP, set to be released by the end of 2023 on ADIPOCERE RECORDS. The studio sessions will begin in April 2023. The artwork will be once again created by SETH SIRO ANTON. The production will be handled by Thibault Bernard at the CONVULSOUND Studio (CELESTE, BENIGHTED, DEATHAWAITS, DEPERIR…). The band plans to continue releasing music and are back as pioneers of Lyon's Death/Black metal scene.
