Sirgaus - L'Anguana e la Gemma del Mare Ancestrale

About:
"L'Anguana e la Gemma del Mare Ancestrale" is a Dolomite fairy tale inspired by a mural in Cibiana di Cadore. The musical involves a collaboration with Sandro Gerardi, a director and videographer who will create an independent film of the work. The story is set in 1661 during the long-lasting war of Candia, where the Republic of Venice is using prisoners for labor in mines to extract iron for weapons. In Cibiana, there is a period of peace and prosperity due to a production of keys and iron mining. The main character Zoro, lives with his older brother and is an orphan. He dreams of adventure and is friends with Kemal, an Ottoman prisoner and master blacksmith. One day, Zoro falls into a hole and finds an underground cave where he meets the Anguana, a water witch who feeds on the dreams of nearby villagers. They share a day together and when the Anguana returns to her cave, she is kidnapped by someone seeking her power to help his people.

Biography:
Sirgaus is an Italian musical project founded in 2011 by composer Mattia Gosetti and his wife Sonia. Together, they write symphonic rock/metal songs inspired by the nature and history of their surroundings, the Dolomiti Bellunesi. These songs have been turned into musicals that the duo has performed in Italian theaters, involving various singers and musicians. In 2015, they won first prize in the Nightwish Elan Cover Contest, an international competition with hundreds of bands from around the world. In 2018, they performed a short Italian tour with a musical called "L'Amore, l'Ardore e l'Alviano" in locations relevant to the history of the Venetian leader Bartolomeo d'Alviano. In 2019, they were praised by the Governor of the Veneto region for their musical "La Bales de canon," which tells the story of the siege of Famagosta and the Battle of Lepanto.
