I've been spinning those two clips from The Discord for the last twenty minutes and, honestly, my head is ringing. This trio from Laval is dropping A Massive Illusion on April 3rd, and it's just… mean. There's no other way to put it.

J'ai passé les vingt dernières minutes à tourner ces deux clips de The Discord et, honnêtement, j'ai les oreilles qui sifflent. Ce trio de Laval sort A Massive Illusion le 3 avril, et c'est juste… méchant. Il n'y a pas d'autre mot.

They used to be Fat Dead Shit, but losing a singer and stripping down to a power trio was probably the best thing that could've happened to them. It's leaner. It's raw. "Blood From My Eyes" has this grating, mechanical tension that makes you feel like you're trapped in a small room with someone who's about to snap. It's not just "heavy", it's actually kind of stressful to listen to.

Ils s'appelaient avant Fat Dead Shit, mais perdre un chanteur et se réduire à un power trio a probablement été la meilleure chose qui pouvait leur arriver. C'est plus épuré. C'est brut. « Blood From My Eyes » a cette tension mécanique et grinçante qui donne l'impression d'être piégé dans une petite pièce avec quelqu'un sur le point de péter les plombs. Ce n'est pas juste « lourd », c'est presque stressant à écouter.

They tracked this at The Apiary, and you can tell because the drums sound like they're being hit right in front of your face. None of that over-produced, triggered nonsense. "Oppressive Generation" is the one that really got me, though. It's got these jagged rhythm breaks that just feel… wrong, but in a way that makes you want to break something. It's like Stray From The Path but with a lot more dirt under the fingernails and a weird, desperate energy that you don't usually get from the bigger "clean" hardcore bands. Ils ont enregistré ça au The Apiary, et ça s'entend parce que la batterie sonne comme si elle était frappée juste devant ta face. Pas de production aseptisée ni de triggers. « Oppressive Generation » est celui qui m'a vraiment eu, par contre. Il a ces breaks rythmiques déchiquetés qui semblent… faux, mais d'une manière qui donne envie de casser quelque chose. C'est comme Stray From The Path mais avec beaucoup plus de crasse sous les ongles et une énergie bizarre et désespérée qu'on n'a pas d'habitude avec les grands groupes de hardcore « propres ».

I'm probably going to have a headache for the rest of the afternoon thanks to that "Oppressive Generation" track, but it was worth it.
