Manigance - Le Bal des Ombres

Manigance: The Prog-Powered Journey of Metal Mastery

From the depths of the metal realm, emerging from the region of Pau in 1995, comes the formidable force known as Manigance. Born from the talents of François Merle (guitar - ex Killers), Daniel Pouylau (drums), and Didier Delsaux (vocals), this powerhouse trio has been shaking the foundations of the genre since their inception.

Originally a cover band, Manigance soon ventured into the realm of original compositions. Their debut demo, "Signe De Vie," released through Brennus Music in 1997, received widespread acclaim, propelling the band into the spotlight. With newfound success on their side, Manigance caught the attention of NTS, securing a record deal that would pave the way for their musical journey.

Not content to rely on outside producers, guitarist François Merle took matters into his own hands, immersing himself in the art of production. The result? The band's first true album, released in 2002, aptly titled "Ange Ou Démon." This opus showcased Manigance's unwavering commitment to traditional heavy metal, complete with powerful French vocals. Yet, it also introduced intricate technical elements, and even ventured into the realm of progressive metal.

In 2004, Manigance underwent a stylistic transformation, delving into a heavier, almost power metal sound with the release of "D'un Autre Sang." This album served as their ticket to touring alongside the likes of Adagio and Stratovarius, capturing their raw energy in the live recording "Mémoires... Live."
With "L'Ombre Et La Lumière" (2006), Manigance embraced a quasi-progressive approach, crafting compositions with longer structures and intricate musical landscapes. The album served as a testament to their artistic growth, captivating audiences with their sonic tapestry.

Following the release of "Récidive" in 2011, drummer Daniel Pouylau bid farewell to the band, making way for Patrick Soria (also an ex-Killers member) to take his place. Manigance continued their musical odyssey, birthing "Volte-Face" in 2014, and unleashing "Machine Nation" upon the world in early 2018. However, the departure of long-time vocalist Didier Delsaux marked a turning point for the band. Yet, with the arrival of Carine Pinto, who lent her voice in a powerful duet with Didier on one of the tracks from "Machine Nation," Manigance proved that their spirit and sonic prowess remain unyielding.

Manigance's journey is a testament to their unwavering dedication to the craft of metal. Their fusion of progressive elements, traditional heavy metal, and unyielding passion has cemented their place in the annals of the genre. As they continue to forge their path, we eagerly await the next chapter in the epic saga of Manigance.
