Through Mists - "BRANCHES"

Upcoming Release:

Through Mists Announces New Album 'BRANCHES'

Attention all headbangers and black-hearted souls, the underground metal scene just got a major upgrade! Montreal's own one-man metal machine, Through Mists, is back with a vengeance, announcing the release of their new album 'BRANCHES'. Set to drop on July 12th, 2024, this five-track beast promises to be a whirlwind of melodic intensity and unsettling dissonance, tailor-made for fans of In Flames, Dimmu Borgir, Rivers of Nihil, Fallujah, and Dissection.

For those unacquainted with Through Mists, allow me to introduce you to the brainchild of James Aniston (yes, the same guy from Synastry). This project, born out of the pandemic's chaos, is a testament to James' tireless work ethic and innovative spirit. Through Mists is an eerie, moody, and aggressive journey through the mind of a musical madman.

'BRANCHES' is a masterclass in balancing dark aggression with an almost contradictory melodious feel. Think of it as "upbeat aggression" — a term that might sound like an oxymoron, but trust me, it works here. The album's five tracks are a rollercoaster of technical passages, fast riffing, and even some sludgier parts that keep you guessing and headbanging simultaneously.

James himself comments on the album: "The work done on this album has been both a challenge and a learning experience. It's doing a lot of work in a short span of time, and all of it delivered with an aggressive point!"

'BRANCHES' isn't just a collection of heavy tracks; it's a deep dive into the concept of family, personal growth, and life changes. Inspired by the birth of his son, James explores the value of relationships and the support we give and receive from those closest to us. Like a tree growing towards the sky, each track represents a branch of life's ever-stretching journey.
Musically, 'BRANCHES' retains some themes from the previous release, 'Prolific', but stands as its own distinct piece. The blend of atmosphere and riffing creates a dense offering that grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go.

As a journalist and a lifelong metalhead, I have to say, 'BRANCHES' is an album that defies easy categorization. It's fresh, unique, and takes risks that pay off in spades. Through Mists has crafted something that pushes the boundaries of extreme metal while keeping a melodious undertone that is both tantalizing and brutal.

So mark your calendars for July 12th, 2024, and prepare to have your mind blown. Pre-save 'BRANCHES' on your favorite streaming platform here, or pre-order on Bandcamp here. Trust me, you won't want to miss this.

Stay metal, stay brutal, and keep those horns held high!
