Now, let’s talk about the moon. It's been inspiring poets, storytellers, and musicians for centuries. There’s something about that silvery glow—it's mysterious, almost otherworldly. The shadows it casts seem darker, deeper, don’t they? And when it's full, well, let's just say things can get a little... wild. That's exactly the vibe Cobra 1981 captures in “Kuun kirkas valo.” It’s your classic werewolf tale, where the narrator feels the pull of the moonlight, a thirst rising within to do things he might not be so proud of later. But hey, even under the full moon's spell, love has a way of keeping that inner beast at bay.
The band hails from the Finnish countryside, where the darkness and silence aren’t just felt—they’re almost tangible. Out there, the moonlight has a powerful effect on the landscape and the mind. It’s no wonder Cobra 1981 has been inspired to write several moon-themed songs. After all, when you're surrounded by that vast, quiet expanse, it’s easy to let your thoughts wander—and to channel them into some seriously heavy music.
Musically, “Kuun kirkas valo” is infused with NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) influences, staying true to the band’s roots. These songs were originally composed back in the golden years of British heavy metal, the 1980s. But this isn’t just some nostalgic trip—Cobra 1981 is bringing those classic sounds into the modern era, giving them a fresh twist.
“Kuun kirkas valo” was just one more step in the band’s long, long journey toward their dream of releasing an album. A dream that, believe it or not, was awakened over forty years ago! That dream finally became a reality on March 22, 2024, when Vol. 1 saw the light of day. And it’s been worth the wait. Their earlier singles, “Vanha kuoma” and “Yön salamat,” have already made waves, not just in Finland, but across the globe—from Australia to Japan to South America. Cobra 1981 is showing that heavy metal truly knows no borders.
If you haven’t already, you can check out “Kuun kirkas valo” on all the usual music platforms—Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Deezer, you name it.

With production by Arttu Volanto and mastering by Mika Jussila at Finnvox, Vol. 1 is a solid entry in the heavy metal scene, packed with raw energy and nostalgic riffs. And let's not forget the stunning visuals, courtesy of Roosa Sippola, who’s brought the album’s themes to life with her photos and graphics.
So, if you’re into classic metal with a fresh twist, and you haven’t yet heard Vol. 1, now’s the time. This album has been forty years in the making, and trust me—it’s one for the books!
