Finnish heavy metal band Cobra 1981 has been turning heads this year with their debut album Vol. 1, which dropped back in March 2024. But before that, they unleashed their third single, “Kuun kirkas valo” (Bright Light of the Moon), in February.

These songs were originally composed back in the golden years of British heavy metal, the 1980s. But this isn’t just some nostalgic trip—Cobra 1981 is bringing those classic sounds into the modern era, giving them a fresh twist.
“Kuun kirkas valo” was just one more step in the band’s long, long journey toward their dream of releasing an album. A dream that, believe it or not, was awakened over forty years ago! That dream finally became a reality on March 22, 2024, when Vol. 1 saw the light of day. And it’s been worth the wait. Their earlier singles, “Vanha kuoma” and “Yön salamat,” have already made waves, not just in Finland, but across the globe—from Australia to Japan to South America. Cobra 1981 is showing that heavy metal truly knows no borders.
