Coilguns is back, and they’re turning up the volume with their latest single, “Generic Skincare". It’s a bold leap from their previous stuff—think synths, raw energy, and a vibe that pushes punk and noise-rock to their limits. “Generic Skincare” isn't just a catchy name; it's a manifesto, showcasing the band's never-ending evolution while staying true to their intense roots.
Over time, Coilguns has become more like family—a solid anchor in each member’s life. They’re in it for the long haul, as long as they can wake up, grab their gear, and make noise together. Old souls in young bodies or vice versa, it doesn’t matter once they’re holding a guitar or drumstick. If they can still pile into the tour bus, they’re good to go!
Biography:
Hailing from the DIY hardcore scene, Coilguns has carved out a niche in the punk and noise-rock world. Their journey’s tied to Jona Nido’s Humus Records, a label now rich with over 150 releases from various Swiss artists. While their last two albums were self-produced, 2022 saw them heading to Norway's Oceansound Recordings, collaborating with producer Scott Evans and Grammy-nominated Tom Dalgety. Known for their raw and euphoric live shows, Coilguns is a band that always leaves an impact.
"Odd Love" is the band’s take on their journey through the music world and life. Who’d have thought a random idea could last so long? This music is how they navigate emotions and life’s phases. They've always been a bit offbeat, but that’s what drives them. They never fit into scenes or trends, and over time, they’ve turned their quirks into a way to connect with fans. Creating their own label, learning everything from scratch, and being unapologetically themselves—that’s the Coilguns way.
Most of "Odd Love" was born in 2020, with Jona Nido writing songs during lockdown. The band played around with 14 demos, reworking them over time, breaking from their usual patterns. This fresh approach led them to record in Norway, a transformative experience for the band. They roped in Scott Evans to help bring out their best, resulting in an album that breaks old molds and explores new ones.
During their studio stint in Norway, they stumbled upon the Slinningsbålet bonfire in Ålesund. The massive blaze mirrored the album's themes—endings, guilt, and fiery transformations. A photo by their cameraman, Valentin Lurthy, captured this mood perfectly, mixing epic drama with a touch of the absurd. Think of it as a grand tragedy with a B-movie twist.
Jona Nido, Louis Jucker, and Luc Hess have been tight since their teens in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Touring with The Ocean Collective in 2011, they decided to form Coilguns. After generating buzz with intense shows, they dropped their debut album "Commuters" in 2013, earning comparisons to heavyweights like Dillinger Escape Plan. Fast forward, they released "Millennials" (2018) and "Watchwinders" (2019), both born from last-minute, high-energy studio sessions. Their raw and experimental style continues to win them fans across Europe and beyond, with more tours lined up for 2024.
Coilguns marches to the beat of their own drum, always pushing the envelope and never looking back. Music is their way of handling life's ups and downs. It's a strange love, but hey, it's theirs.
