New Release:
Finnish metal band Autumn's Grief just dropped a brand new single called The Inquisition on September 19th, 2024! If you’re into emotionally charged, cinematic metal with haunting melodies, then this track is going to hit you right in the feels. Taken from their upcoming third album Dead Among The Living, which is set to release on October 25th, 2024 (mark your calendars), this single is a taste of what’s to come. Let me tell you—if this track is any indication, we’re in for a dark, intense, and beautiful ride.
The Inquisition doesn’t waste time messing around. From the opening notes, you’re thrust into a painfully raw moment. The protagonist is caught in a web of lies, forced to keep a deep secret that could lead to disaster if revealed. But, as fate would have it, the truth always finds a way to catch up. The tension builds throughout the song as we follow the narrator on her path to a grim but inevitable reckoning. You know that feeling when you're about to confront something you've been avoiding forever? Yeah, that's The Inquisition in a nutshell.
And here’s a fun fact for all the die-hard fans out there—this was actually the first track recorded for Dead Among The Living. According to vocalist Noora Virtanen, the song captures so much of what Autumn's Grief is all about: dark historical references, layered storytelling, and that unmistakable melancholic vibe they’ve become known for. It’s a haunting narrative wrapped in heavy guitars and mournful piano melodies.
Autumn's Grief isn’t exactly new to the scene. Formed in 2021 (and hailing from Finland, where all the best metal seems to come from, right?), they’ve already given us two full-length albums—The Dead Don’t Smile (2021) and Dead By The Dawn (2022). This upcoming release will be the final chapter in their so-called “Dead-trilogy.” So, what can we expect? If their past work is anything to go by, this album is going to be a wild, emotional journey.
The band is made up of guitarist Santtu Rosén (who you might recognize from Dead End Finland), keyboardist Ville Skön (who also goes by Willie Dangerr in the synthwave scene), and of course, the one and only Noora Virtanen on vocals (also from Tulio). Oh, and they’ve got session drummer Jarno Petterinen keeping the beat for this release.
Autumn's Grief specializes in what I’d call “sorrowful metal,” mixing beautiful piano melodies with dark, heavy guitars and emotionally intense vocals. Imagine wandering through a desolate forest as twilight fades, with Noora’s haunting voice guiding you through the gloom. Yeah, it’s that kind of vibe. Each track is like its own little gothic adventure, painting a bleak yet beautiful picture of loss, struggle, and sometimes—just sometimes—hope.
Apart from The Inquisition, you’ve got three singles already out: Dead Among The Living, The Absolution, and Perfectly Flawed. Each one builds on that same cinematic, atmospheric metal sound that Autumn’s Grief does so well. With song titles like Pushing Up The Daisies and Aberration of Light on the album tracklist, you just know this record is going to take you to some dark, poetic places. It’s like stepping into a Tim Burton film—but with way more guitar solos.

The album and single covers are visually stunning, thanks to the talented Kris Olson. The eerie, otherworldly paintings perfectly match the somber mood of the music. It’s a package deal, really—what you see is exactly what you’ll hear.
If you haven’t already hit play on The Inquisition, do yourself a favor and go check it out right now. Autumn’s Grief has a way of pulling you in with their deep, atmospheric sound, and this new single is no different. Whether you’re in it for the dark vibes, the lush instrumentation, or Noora’s chilling vocals, there’s something here for every metalhead. This isn’t just music you listen to—it’s music you feel.
Dead Among The Living drops October 25th, and I have a feeling it’s going to be one of those albums that stays with you long after the final note fades. It’s metal, it’s cinematic, and most of all—it’s beautifully tragic. So buckle up, because Autumn's Grief is about to take us on one final, heart-wrenching journey through their “Dead-trilogy".
