So, who are these guys? Formed in 2009 in Odense, Denmark, Mezmerizer started as a playground for metal heads craving a break from their main gigs. They’ve been experimenting with different musical influences and having a blast doing it. Their first track saw the light of day on a compilation album just weeks after they kicked things off, with growls courtesy of Jonas Viuff from Terrorpy.
Fast forward to 2011, and they dropped a three-track demo with Esben Elnegaard Hansen from Hatesphere lending his growling talents. Then, in 2018, they were back with another track on a compilation, this time featuring the vocals of Michael Bastholm Dahl. And now? Well, they’ve been busy. After Dahl’s departure from Artillery in 2023, Mezmerizer hit the studio hard, resulting in their debut album, Whispers of Leviathan.
When it comes to the album's musical style, Dahl says it's a melting pot of metal genres. From the darkest black metal to the most melodic anthems, they’ve got it all. “We listen to each riff, and then we go wild with melodies, harmonies, punchlines, and rhythms. We’re all about adding something fresh to the mix”, Dahl explains.
Main composer Flemming Goldberg-Larsen is quick to shout out his lifelong love for Iron Maiden. “I’m inspired by countless metal bands”, he says, “but when I’m working on new material, I keep in mind how a live show can thrive on aggressive jams like ‘Wrathchild’, epic tracks like ‘Seventh Son of a Seventh Son’ and crowd favorites like ‘Fear of the Dark’. I’m not saying I’m as skilled as Iron Maiden, but I always aim to honor the tradition of bands that go the extra mile to give their fans an unforgettable experience".
The debut album Whispers of Leviathan dives into themes of societal double standards, and let’s just say, Mezmerizer isn’t holding back. Their upcoming music videos will hammer home these messages. In a world where everyone’s pointing fingers, sometimes it helps to remember that things aren’t always as they seem—even in Denmark, a country often seen as a model for the rest of the world.
Stay tuned for the release date of Whispers of Leviathan—the metal storm is coming!
