Here we are, in September 2024, and the echoes of Auf zerfetzten Schwingen, Autumnblaze’s latest album, are still reverberating across the dark metal landscape. Released back in February 2024, this eighth studio album by the German duo has carved itself a space that demands attention. It’s not just music—it’s a manifesto, a cry, a warning wrapped in raw emotion and unapologetic intensity.

But let’s back up a bit. The world’s gone mad, hasn’t it? Everywhere you look, it’s borders, division, violence. It feels like humanity’s stuck in this never-ending loop of chaos. Innocent lives lost for causes that feel so distant, so cold—faith, power, money. And while we’re watching this collapse, some of us can’t help but feel helpless. Autumnblaze? They took all that helplessness and turned it into fuel.

Markus and Arisjel, the minds behind Autumnblaze, couldn’t ignore what was happening around them. In fact, they scrapped all their previous ideas for a new album in the spring of 2022 and, in just a few weeks, filled that blank space with something they’d never quite captured before: pure, unfiltered clarity. Clarity that screamed against war, against division, against everything that’s wrong with our world today.

Autumnblaze has always been about diving deep into the human condition—exploring love, loss, betrayal, death, and loneliness. But with Auf zerfetzten Schwingen, they’ve turned that inward gaze outward, holding a cracked mirror to society. And what do we see? A world where violence and hysteria reign. The lyrics, sung entirely in their native German, hit harder for it, more authentic, more immediate—no translation required to feel the sting. It’s dark metal that doesn’t just sound heavy; it feels heavy.

Musically, this album is a gut-punch. It’s raw, it’s angry, and it’s passionate. Every note feels like a scream from the depths of the human soul, a voice for those left behind in the cacophony of modern madness. And when it came to giving this fury a voice, Markus Stock, known for his work with Empyrium and The Vision Bleak, brought his magic touch to the production at his famed Klangschmiede Studio E. The result? A sound that’ll knock you off your feet, yet keep you coming back for more.

The cover art:
Crafted by the talented Friederieke Myschik, the visual perfectly encapsulates the album’s spirit. She’s no stranger to Autumnblaze, having worked on their previous record Welkin Shores Burning, and her work here elevates the music to another level.

So, where does Auf zerfetzten Schwingen leave us? It’s a call to arms, a stark reminder that we’re all caught in the spiral of violence unless we do something—anything—to break free. It’s not just an album. It’s a warning, a plea for a world that seems intent on tearing itself apart.
