Hvalross is a four-piece hard-rocking powerhouse—not from Norway, as you might think from the name, but hailing from the South of the Netherlands! The band first took shape in the spring of 2018, but don’t let their relatively recent formation fool you. These guys have been shaking the stage since their teenage years in the late ’80s! With a fierce desire to honor those glory days, their sound is grounded in the hard rock and heavy metal vibes of the '70s and '80s, all while incorporating contemporary stoner and heavy rock influences.
You can totally hear shades of their idols—think Mastodon, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, and Iron Maiden. Imagine a classic four-piece set-up, reminiscent of Black Sabbath, with melodic hard rock vocals riding smoothly over a punchy rhythm section. Their sound hits heavy and monstrous like a walrus, but they bring in the energy of a live show that’ll leave you breathless!
In October 2020, Hvalross unleashed their debut album, Cold Dark Rain, on all the usual streaming platforms. True to their ‘80s vibe, it even came out on "cold rain" colored vinyl—pretty cool, right? The response was awesome, and they gained representation through Hard Life Promotion. Unfortunately, the pandemic threw a wrench in their live promo plans, and original drummer Tristan decided to part ways with the band in 2021. But fear not—they quickly regrouped with the phenomenal Marc behind the drums, ready to rock on!
Now, after successfully releasing three killer singles—“Running the Gauntlet,” “Mercenary Knight,” and “Helios”—the band is riding high on the release of their EP Running The Gauntlet, which combines all those bangers for your listening pleasure.
