What happens when doom, death, and symphonic metal walk into a smoky bar playing post-punk? You get The Twilight Affliction—a genre-blurring, mood-drenched EP from U.S. outfit The Lucidia Project, landing June 30. But don’t box them in just yet. This is less “metalcore chaos” and more “melodic storm with a soul.”
Built around co-founders Chase Baldwin (vocals/keys) and Benjamin Jacobs (bass), the band started quietly in 2022 with In the Fray. That demo stirred up college radio, sure—but 2023’s Requiem hinted at a bigger storm brewing. Then came Daniel Williams on guitar, carving sharper edges into their sound, and Soul Killer (2024), a standalone single that basically screamed: We’ve arrived.
Fast-forward to 2025, and they’re firing on all cylinders. Garrett Carroll brought dual-guitar energy in January, and the addition of drummer Aaron Bedford just sealed the deal. This isn’t a band tinkering with identity anymore—they know who they are now.
And The Twilight Affliction? It hits like a soundtrack to your worst nightmare—and your quietest heartbreak. Chase shifts between raw screams and haunting cleans, while Benjamin’s basslines rumble like aftershocks. Add crushing riffs, and noir-level atmosphere, and what you get is six tracks of high-drama catharsis. Think Nightwish if they grew up on Joy Division and got dumped in the middle of a thunderstorm.
This EP doesn’t ask for your attention—it demands it. The Lucidia Project have crafted something strange and cinematic, heavy but human. If your playlist lives somewhere between Katatonia and Tori Amos in crisis, congratulations—you’ve found your new obsession.
