If you’re ready to revisit a heavy experience, both sonically and emotionally, then take another plunge into “Hate” , a track from Dark Affliction’s groundbreaking debut album Five Stages of Grief , released on May 24, 2024 via Theogonia Records. It has now been nearly a year since this atmospheric black metal masterpiece arrived, and its impact remains as powerful as ever.
This Greek band continues to stand out in the scene by refusing to follow trends. Instead, they carve their own path through black metal, blending Hellenic roots with primal energy, haunting melodies, and deeply emotional storytelling. Their music feels like a cold wind on a mountain pass: raw, untamed, and unforgettable.
“Hate” is the second stage in the band’s conceptual journey through grief (Denial, Hate, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance). A year after its release, it still feels like more than just a song: it's an immersive experience. Layered with violin, piano, and haunting vocals, the track captures the raw intensity of human emotion. Guest musicians such as Eleni Nota, Nikos Mavridis, Anastasia Kiritsi, and Sakis Bastas add even more depth to this dark symphony.
Recorded at NoiseBox Studio and mixed and mastered by John Milionis, the album is as visually striking as it is sonically intense. The design work by Khaos Diktator Design and Graphic no Jutsu enhances the already gripping atmosphere of the music.
Even for someone who isn’t typically drawn to concept albums, Five Stages of Grief feels honest and deeply moving. It’s as if the band captured the raw, unfiltered emotions we all feel when life hits hard and turned them into something beautiful yet brutal.
