Christ Agony return with Anthems: The Devil’S lullaby, Reborn

Nine years. That’s how long it’s been since Christ Agony last unleashed a studio album. And yet, when Cezar Augustynowicz finally re-emerged with Anthems, it didn’t feel like a comeback. More like a reckoning.
This isn’t nostalgia dressed in chains and smoke. No, Anthems is the sound of a man who’s stared into the abyss and decided to write a hymn from the other side. The black metal pioneer, once known for sonic chaos and mythic excess, now channels his fire through a quieter, sharper lens. Less rage, more reflection. But don’t mistake calm for weakness. This album hits like a slow-burning avalanche.
The production? Thick, layered, alive. Grabowski and Cezar at the helm: no gimmicks, just weight. Guitars cut like obsidian shards, drums thunder with purpose (Daray and August on board), and Cezar’s vocals? Still unhinged, still hypnotic, like a sermon delivered by a fallen angel who’s read too many philosophy books.
And then there’s that didgeridoo on track 4. Yes, really. Not a joke. A haunting, subterranean breath beneath the storm. Because even in hell, beauty can sneak in.
Lyrically, it’s all about collapse and rebirth, empires crumbling, light fading, but not without meaning. “Empire Of Twilight” isn’t just a title; it’s a mood. A funeral march wrapped in melody. The kind of song that makes you want to scream into a void… then sit quietly for ten minutes afterward.
Is it as raw as Unholyunion? Probably not. But it’s smarter. It’s deeper. It’s more. Cezar hasn’t lost his edge, he’s sharpened it. After decades of noise, he’s found clarity. And that’s rare.
So yeah, this might not be the “return to form” some expected. But it’s something better: a new form. A testament to survival. To art that evolves instead of repeating itself.
Anthems drops September 26, 2025. Deformeathing Prod. Don’t miss it.
