Rimbacher - "Sold My Soul To Rock ‘n’ Roll"

What's New: Rimbacher

Rimbacher Covers Dave Evans’ Lost AC/DC Gem and It’s a Hell of a Ride

Finnish hard rockers Rimbacher just dropped a cover of "Sold My Soul To Rock ‘n’ Roll", a deep cut from Dave Evans’ 2007 album Sinner. Yes, that Dave Evans, the original AC/DC frontman who growled "Can I Sit Next to You, Girl" before Bon Scott even picked up a mic. And no, it’s not just another lazy tribute, it’s a full-throttle love letter to the kind of rock that doesn’t ask for permission.

The band’s frontman, Niko Rimbacher, played this very track alongside Evans during his Finnish tour as part of "His Finnish Badassess" (yes, that’s the real name, and yes, it rules). "Dave told us to play like it was ours," Niko recalls. "No half-measures. Just energy, dynamics, and conviction." Mission accomplished. This isn’t some note-perfect museum piece; it’s a band throwing gasoline on a forgotten spark, letting it burn with the swagger of ’80s stadium rock and the polish of their AOR-chiseled sound. The result? A cover that feels less like a homage and more like a reunion: raw, punchy, and dripping with the kind of sleaze that made hard rock dangerous in the first place.

Timing-wise, it’s a smart move. Their 2024 debut, High Hopes On The Rocks, earned them more than just Finnish praise: it marked them as a band who get the balance between melody and muscle. With their second album already brewing (and a few new tracks sneaking into live sets), this single is the perfect appetizer: a reminder that Rimbacher isn’t just riding the retro wave: they’re steering the damn boat.

So, does it work? Absolutely. Evans’ original had the snarl of a man who’d seen rock’s underbelly; Rimbacher’s version keeps that grit but wraps it in their signature glossy, anthemic sheen. Purists might grumble, but the rest of us will just crank it up and thank them for digging up a buried treasure.
