Galo de Briga: São Paulo’s Street-Level Punk Riot Gets a Debut Album

São Paulo’s underground just got a new middle finger, and it’s called Galo de Briga. Born in 2023 from the ashes of Guarulhos’ DIY scene, this four-piece isn’t here to play nice. Their sound? A molotov cocktail of Ramones’ snotty punk, Motörhead’s grease, and the raw, unfiltered fury of Cólera or English Dogs. But forget the nostalgia trip: Galo de Briga’s strength lies in how they weaponize those influences into something urgently theirs, a soundtrack for the city’s grittier corners, where politics, booze, and daily survival collide.

What sets them apart? For starters, they’re stubbornly singing in Portuguese, spitting verses about street life, systemic rot, and the kind of drunkenness that’s less romantic and more desperate. No grandstanding, no posturing: just a vocal delivery (courtesy of Marcos Maccione) that sounds like it’s been scraped raw from the pavement. Live, they’re already a force: chaotic, confrontational, the kind of band that leaves you bruised and grinning.

Their debut album, Ruas (out May 17, 2025 via Porcoburger Records), promises to bottle that energy. The question isn’t if it’ll hit hard, but whether the rest of the world’s ready for a band that sounds this alive.
Punk’s always been about the now, and these guys nail it: messy, honest, and pissed off enough to matter.
