FAUXX CEMENTS THEIR PLACE IN FRENCH INDUSTRIAL METAL
Listen to the AlbumWith "Anteroom", FAUXX solidifies the path sketched out on their debut and stakes a claim as one of the most singular projects in the French industrial-metal scene. The duo, Joachim Blanchet (drums, synths, programming) and Jean-Baptiste "Job" Tronel (vocals, guitars, production), coming from different backgrounds (Hoa Queen / Tagada Jones), tightens a clear sonic identity: abrasive but composed music, where the organic and the electronic complement each other rather than clash.
The record opens with "Hyperwar," a dry, nervy track driven by a very natural drum sound and a deliberately stripped production. The point is made: FAUXX favors real impact over digital gloss. "The Revealer," boosted by a standout turn from Diego Janson (Karras), raises the tension further: a more aggressive cut, almost hardcore in delivery, while keeping the electronic textures that define the band.
On the more introspective side, "Burnt Velvet Retinas" and "Demiurge Data" ride heavy, suffocating atmospheres built on deliberately gritty synth beds. These tracks show FAUXX can slow the pace without losing its identity and that's where the duo surprises most. Their take on New Model Army's "Here Comes the War" is one of the record's solid moves: stripped back, cold, almost clinical, it slots perfectly into the anxious thread running through the album.
Recorded and produced by the band, "Anteroom" privileges direct takes and minimal polish, which strengthens the record's organic feel. The choice of a raw, unapologetic production sometimes roughens the edges, but it serves the concept: a dark, tense album that doesn't try to seduce except by its authenticity.
Since their notable Hellfest 2022 appearance, FAUXX have shown they own a live dimension. The upcoming tour should measure the band's evolution and confirm the almost "physical" energy the record conveys.
