"In Tears of Her Reign": When Symphonic Metal Dares to Bleed

Finnish symphonic metallers Satra are back, and they’re not here to play it safe. After a debut album that turned heads and a European run opening for Therion, their sophomore effort, In Tears of Her Reign, doubles down on what made them stand out: soaring orchestrations, crushing guitars, and vocals that cut deeper than a winter in Helsinki.

"This isn’t just another symphonic metal album, it’s a funeral march for lost love and a whispered prayer for hope."

The band weaves themes of memory, grief, and fragile beauty into every track, turning Pilvi’s voice into a ghostly guide through the wreckage. And yes, there’s light in the darkness, but you’ll have to dig through the ruins to find it. The songwriting, now firmly in Niko’s hands, feels both ambitious and organic, like a natural evolution rather than a forced reinvention.

Line-up changes could’ve derailed lesser bands, but Satra sounds tighter, hungrier, and more haunting than ever. If you’ve ever lost yourself in Nightwish’s grandeur, Epica’s bombast, or Evanescence’s raw ache, this one’s for you, just don’t expect to walk away unscathed.

First single “Into the Ravenous Sea” is out now: a storm of strings and sorrow that’ll leave you breathless. Stream it, weep to it, and save the album before it swallows you whole.

Satra proves that symphonic metal can still feel dangerous and emotionally raw. "In Tears of Her Reign" is a masterclass in Finnish melancholy: grand, tragic, and utterly captivating. A mandatory listen for anyone who likes their metal with a heavy dose of orchestral drama.
