New Release: Scythe for sore eyes

FINNISH METAL HEADS JUST DROPPED A PUZZLE: AND IT'S NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART

So, Helsinki’s Scythe For Sore Eyes, yeah, that name, just unleashed their third album, Face Puzzle, and honestly? It’s like they took their 2019 Nothing record, threw it in a blender with a few extra tons of riffs, and hit “grind.” Recorded at Inka Studio with Juho Räihä twisting the knobs, this thing sounds heavier, meaner, and, well that’s the thing, it actually works. The clean vocals (courtesy of Satu Nummenpää) still play tag with Jarno’s growls, but now it feels less like a duel and more like a full-on brawl. In the best way.

And because why the hell not, they tossed in two covers: a nod to Jarno’s old thrash mob Sorrowed with “Existence in Hatred,” and, wait for it... Breaking the Law. Yes, that one. Judas Priest would probably raise an eyebrow, but honestly? It fits. Like a leather jacket three sizes too small.

Give "Blood Red Moon" or "Petrolhead" a spin if you're into that Finnish mix of melody and mayhem: it's got that Children of Bodom meets Amorphis vibe, but with its own twisted grin. The album's a beast, no two ways about it. Not every track's a home run (I'm side-eyeing you, "No!"), but when it hits? Damn.

"Scythe For Sore Eyes' 'Face Puzzle' is a bold and heavy step forward for the Finnish band. It successfully amplifies their signature blend of clean and harsh vocals with an even more aggressive and riff-heavy sound. The inclusion of covers, especially 'Breaking the Law', adds a surprising and effective touch. It's a dynamic and intense album that will appeal to fans of melodic death metal and groove metal with a unique edge."
