New Release:
WitcheR - "Öröklét": Blackened Atmospheres Straight Out of the Hungarian Wilds
Watch the VideoLet’s be honest for a sec: atmospheric black metal is a trap. One wrong move and you’re knee-deep in keyboard soup or drifting into full-on dungeon-soundtrack territory. But WitcheR, these Hungarian shadow-weavers who’ve been doing their thing since 2010, clearly know the secret sauce. Öröklét doesn’t ask for permission, it just grabs you by the collar and pulls you into the dark.
The usual ingredients are here, sure: cold guitar lines, big cinematic synth clouds, that mix of melancholy and ancient grandeur somewhere between a more melodic Burzum and a Summoning record that actually steps outside for fresh air. But the difference? WitcheR sound alive. There’s grit. There’s breath. There’s that raw edge you can’t fake in a studio.
And then comes that curveball, a cover of Schubert’s Piano Trio No. 2. On paper it sounds like someone lost a bet. In practice? It’s… gorgeous. A tiny classical ghost floating across their foggy world for just a minute. Unexpected, yeah, but it hits.
The album took two years to shape at Forest Studio with Vrag behind the board, and honestly, you can tell. Nothing suffocates anything else. The synths don’t smother the guitars, the guitars don’t bully the atmosphere ; everything breathes like a cold wind through the trees. The artwork by Grafit & Hamu locks in the vibe: eerie, understated, and carrying that old-world sadness the band thrives on.
Öröklét dropped November 4 through Filosofem Records (CD/cassette) and Beverina Productions (vinyl), and it’s streaming everywhere by now. If you’re into black metal that’s immersive, emotional, and totally free of modern pretension, this one’s worth sinking your teeth into.
