New Release: Malignea
THE VILLAGE BURNS SLOW
Portugal’s MALIGNEA just dropped A ALDEIA and yeah… this thing crawls under the skin.
Second album. Two years after the last one. And you can hear the shift. Darker, wider, more confident, like they stopped asking permission. A Aldeia is a concept record, all about rural myths, old fears, folklore ghosts that never really left. You feel the mud on the boots. You feel watched. (ok this atmosphere is killing me…)
Gothic metal, sure, but not the cheesy kind. There’s theater here, but it breathes. Songs like “A Dança”, “O Moinho”, “O Rei do Inferno” hit like little rituals. Repetitive in the right way. Hypnotic. The band leans hard into Portuguese identity and it works, feels honest, not cosplay.
The single “A Dança” is already looping in my head. Groovy, ominous, almost ceremonial. You sway before you realize it. Creepy stuff. Love it.
Reviews say this is a big step forward and yeah, I get it. More layers, more melodies, more narrative glue holding everything together. Still dark, still heavy, just… deeper.
Not saying this album reinvents gothic metal. But it feels real. Rooted. Uneasy. And honestly, that’s enough tonight.
Go listen. Tell me if it creeps you out too.

« L'album 'A Aldeia' de Malignea délivre un métal gothique enraciné et honnête. Avec des rituels sombres et hypnotiques et une identité portugaise, c’est un pas plus profond et plus confiant vers l’avant... »
