COSMIC DREAD AND OLD-SCHOOL RIFFS

Vancouver. SuckerTrap. "Science of Macabre." Ok I wasn't ready for this one. It's hard rock wearing a philosopher's coat: black holes, dying stars, wolves, quasars... and somehow it doesn't feel pretentious at all. Just heavy. The kind of heavy that makes you stare at the ceiling for a minute after the track ends. There's this 80s metal backbone running through everything, very Sabbath-meets-Priest in the DNA, but with something darker and more cinematic on top. Think theatrical but not overblown. Dramatic but not stupid.

Vancouver. SuckerTrap. « Science of Macabre ». Ok j’étais pas prêt pour ça. Du hard rock avec un manteau de philosophe : trous noirs, étoiles mourantes, loups, quasars… et pourtant ça sonne pas prétentieux du tout. Juste lourd. Le genre de lourd qui te fait fixer le plafond une minute après la fin. Avec une ossature metal 80’s qui traverse tout, très Sabbath-meets-Priest dans l’ADN, mais avec un truc plus sombre et cinématographique par-dessus. Théâtral mais pas too much. Dramatique mais pas con.

New vocalist Abby DeForest is the real story here honestly. Debut on this track and she commands it. Like immediately. The melodies hit hard and there's this theatrical edge to her delivery that fits the whole "existential dread as power move" vibe perfectly. Produced by David Ottoson and it sounds massive, controlled chaos basically. The project's got roots going back through Crystal Pistol and the Randy Rampage band, there's a real pedigree here. Iggy, Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy floating around in the mix if you listen close. Gothic undertones without going full goth theater.

La nouvelle chanteuse Abby DeForest, c’est la vraie histoire ici. Début sur ce titre et elle domine direct. Genre immédiatement. Les mélodies cognent fort et y a ce tranchant théâtral dans sa façon de livrer qui colle pile au vibe « existential dread comme power move ». Produit par David Ottoson et ça sonne massif, chaos maîtrisé. Le projet a des racines via Crystal Pistol et le Randy Rampage band, y a un vrai pedigree. Iggy, Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy qui flottent dans le mix si tu écoutes bien. Undertones gothiques sans virer full goth theater.

I'll be honest, "Science of Macabre" is maybe a bit long in the middle section for me, but the opening and that chorus... yeah. No complaints there. Go watch the video, it's worth it.

Honnêtement, « Science of Macabre » est peut-être un poil long au milieu pour moi, mais l’ouverture et ce refrain… ouais. Rien à redire. Va regarder le clip, ça vaut le coup.
