New Release: Deathmarch
NO MERCY, JUST RETALIATION
DEATHMARCH just kicked the door in and didn’t bother closing it.
Netherlands. Old School Death Metal at the core, no compromise, but smeared with punk sweat and crust filth. Founded by Quint Meerbeek (Bodyfarm) and a bunch of scene lifers who clearly don’t do subtle. This started as pure OSDM worship and yeah, you can hear it, but over the years it mutated. Faster. Meaner. Raw. Punk and crust crawling into the riffs like rust. And it fits. Too well maybe.
Their first full-length “VIOLENT RETALIATION” is out now and damn… eight tracks, no filler, no mercy. Just blunt force. Chainsaw riffs, d-beat urgency, that constant feeling of being chased down a dark alley. It doesn’t breathe much. Good. (ok this one’s punching hard…)
Lyrically it’s all about abuse of power, injustice, payback, vengeance. Nothing poetic, nothing fancy. Straight to the jaw. Feels sadly current too, which makes it hit harder than expected. You nod your head, then you clench your teeth. Repeat.
This isn’t reinventing death metal. It’s sharpening it. Dragging it through punk clubs and crust basements and throwing it back at your face. Some will want more groove, others more purity. Me? I like it raw. A bit unhinged. Slightly ugly.
Not for everyone. Definitely for those who like their death metal angry, fast, and smelling like gasoline. Go spin it. Let me know if it leaves a bruise.
