LOS ANGELES DUO – ADRENALINE PURE, LIVE MACHINE

I spent my morning digging into Krashkarma and, honestly, my ears are still ringing. This duo out of Los Angeles is a pure shot of adrenaline. What's wild is how they manage to sound like a full four-piece band. Ralf uses this "Frankenstein Guitar", a custom hybrid that lets him trigger bass frequencies while he's ripping through his guitar riffs. It's a bit of a brain-melter to watch, but it works. Between that and Niki hammering the drums while singing, we're a long way from a "chill" rock band.

J'ai passé ma matinée à creuser Krashkarma et, honnêtement, j'ai encore les oreilles qui sifflent. Ce duo de Los Angeles est une pure dose d'adrénaline. Ce qui est dingue, c'est leur capacité à sonner comme un groupe de quatre musiciens. Ralf utilise sa « Frankenstein Guitar », une hybride sur mesure qui lui permet de déclencher des fréquences de basse tout en déchiquetant ses riffs de guitare. C'est un peu perturbant à regarder, mais ça fonctionne. Entre ça et Niki qui martèle la batterie en chantant, on est loin du groupe rock « tranquille ».

What really gets me is the constant tug-of-war in their sound. Ralf goes for these feral, almost beast-like vocals, and then Niki layers her melodies right on top. It makes the tracks incredibly catchy, even when the riffs are heavy enough to knock down a wall. You can tell they've got over 700 shows under their belts; this isn't some amateur DIY project, it's a war machine that's been polished on the road across the States and Germany.

Their album Falling to Pieces just confirms what I suspected: they pull from everywhere: Punk, Metal, Heavy... but with a brutal efficiency. It's the kind of sound that makes you want to down a beer and headbang in a sweaty basement club. You can see why they're winning awards in Hollywood; the live show must be a total assault on the senses. I'm going to go sit down for a minute; just trying to wrap my head around the coordination it takes to manage bass and guitar on the same neck is giving me a bit of a headache.
