SHOCK METAL WITH APOCALYPTIC THEATRICS

I spent a good chunk of my morning digging into DarkFlow, and honestly, it's a bit of a mess, the organized, theatrical kind. They've slapped the "Shock Metal" label on it, which usually means anything and everything, but listening to it feels like a high-speed collision between jagged Thrash and these massive orchestrations that drop on you out of nowhere.

J'ai passé une bonne partie de ma matinée à creuser DarkFlow, et honnêtement, c'est un peu un bordel, le genre organisé et théâtral. Ils ont collé l'étiquette « Shock Metal », ce qui veut généralement dire n'importe quoi, mais écouter ça donne l'impression d'une collision à grande vitesse entre du Thrash déchiqueté et ces orchestrations massives qui te tombent dessus sans prévenir.

What's sticking with me is this obsession they have with concept albums. With their latest project, Imminent End, they're leaning hard into the whole apocalyptic nightmare vibe. "Press The Button," their newest single, is effective, but it's just so... dramatic. You can tell these guys aren't just here to rip through some riffs; they want to make you feel twitchy, telling stories about the Four Horsemen like it's the nightly news. It gets a bit "too much" at times, almost over-the-top, but they own it 100%.

Ce qui me reste, c'est cette obsession qu'ils ont pour les albums concepts. Avec leur dernier projet, Imminent End, ils s'enfoncent à fond dans l'ambiance cauchemar apocalyptique. « Press The Button », leur nouveau single, est efficace, mais c'est tellement… dramatique. On sent que ces gars ne sont pas là juste pour balancer des riffs ; ils veulent te rendre nerveux, racontent les Quatre Cavaliers comme s'il s'agissait du journal télévisé. C'est parfois « trop », presque excessif, mais ils assument à 100 %.

It makes sense when you see names like Snowy Shaw (ex-Mercyful Fate) or Andy LaRocque hanging around. You can definitely hear that King Diamond influence, just pumped up on steroids with a modern layer that makes the whole thing feel pretty oppressive. I'm not sure I'd blast this while doing my grocery shopping, but if you want to dive into something dark and cinematic, it does the job. Ça a du sens quand on voit des noms comme Snowy Shaw (ex-Mercyful Fate) ou Andy LaRocque traîner dans le coin. On entend clairement l'influence de King Diamond, mais gonflée à la testostérone avec une couche moderne qui rend l'ensemble assez oppressant. Je ne suis pas sûr d'écouter ça en faisant les courses, mais si vous voulez plonger dans quelque chose de sombre et cinématographique, ça fait le job.

Do you ever feel like when a band goes this heavy on the "concept" and the "theater," they end up losing some of that raw, visceral energy that makes Metal great in the first place? \m/
