Honestly, I'm not even going to try and sugarcoat this: listening to Decathexis left me feeling pretty drained. It's one of those records that actually demands a bit of physical effort just to get through to the end. Australia's Hebephrenique clearly didn't come here to make friends; they sound like they've crawled out of some alternate dimension where everything is just... wrong.

Honnêtement, je ne vais même pas essayer d'enrober ça : écouter Decathexis m'a laissé plutôt vidé. C'est un de ces disques qui exigent un effort physique pour aller au bout. Les Australiens de Hebephrenique ne sont clairement pas venus pour se faire des amis ; ils ont l'air d'avoir rampé hors d'une dimension parallèle où tout est… faux.

Right from the opening of "Stasis," you can tell this isn't going to be a fun ride. It's not just "extreme metal": it's this dissonant, suffocating sonic sludge that sticks to you. There's a spot in "Visions of Magdalene" where the drums go into such a chaotic spiral that I actually had to stop and check if my headphones were glitching out. It's jarring, borderline annoying at times, but that's exactly where the genius is: it forces you way out of your comfort zone.

Dès l'ouverture de « Stasis », on sent que ça ne va pas être une balade agréable. Ce n'est pas seulement du « metal extrême » : c'est cette boue sonore dissonante et suffocante qui colle à vous. Il y a un passage dans « Visions of Magdalene » où la batterie part dans une spirale si chaotique que j'ai dû m'arrêter pour vérifier si mon casque n'avait pas un problème. C'est dérangeant, parfois limite agaçant, mais c'est exactement là que réside le génie : ça te pousse hors de ta zone de confort.

Brendan Auld's mix is massive, but he kept that claustrophobic vibe perfectly intact. On "I, Adverse," the guitars are doing things my brain still hasn't fully mapped out. Imagine the sheer violence of Anaal Nathrakh meeting the cold, calculated madness of Gorguts, but with a grimy darkness that's all their own. It's dense, it's long, maybe a tiny bit too long? But the impact is undeniable. Le mix de Brendan Auld est massif, mais il a gardé cette ambiance claustrophobique intacte. Sur « I, Adverse », les guitares font des choses que mon cerveau n'a pas encore complètement décodées. Imaginez la violence brute d'Anaal Nathrakh rencontrant la folie froide et calculée de Gorguts, mais avec une noirceur crasse qui leur est propre. C'est dense, long, peut-être un tout petit peu trop long ? Mais l'impact est indéniable.

This just dropped on Apocalyptic Witchcraft, and seriously, if you're looking for something "chill," run the other way. But if you want to see exactly how much dissonance your ears can handle before they give up, this is your soundtrack.

I've spun this three times now and I'm still convinced I'm missing half of what's going on. I can't tell if it's pure brilliance or if I'm just getting too old for this much chaos, but it definitely leaves a mark. \m/
