Honestly, trying to pull off a cohesive sound when you're split between New Jersey and Cheshire usually ends up sounding like a messy collage, but The Fods actually made it work. Their new track "Cold" just dropped, and it lives up to the name: it's the kind of song that gets under your skin and stays there, chilly as hell.

Franchement, essayer d'avoir un son cohérent quand on est partagé entre le New Jersey et le Cheshire finit généralement en collage brouillon, mais The Fods a réussi. Leur nouveau morceau « Cold » vient de sortir, et il porte bien son nom : c'est le genre de chanson qui s'incruste sous la peau et y reste, glaciale comme l'enfer.

The absolute curveball here was bringing in Sonia Hutchinson from Crowsilver. She's got this massive, cathedral-like voice that's both beautiful and slightly terrifying. It turns what could've been a standard indie-rock tune into this haunted, modern piece. I cranked the volume a bit too high on the chorus and honestly thought my eardrums were going to cave in, but that's exactly the point, right? You want to feel it in your teeth, not just have it playing in the background while you do the dishes.

La vraie surprise ici, c'est d'avoir fait venir Sonia Hutchinson de Crowsilver. Elle a cette voix massive, comme une cathédrale, à la fois belle et un peu terrifiante. Ça transforme ce qui aurait pu être un simple morceau indie‑rock en une pièce hantée et moderne. J'ai poussé le volume un peu trop fort sur le refrain et honnêtement, j'ai cru que mes tympans allaient lâcher, mais c'est exactement le but, non ? On veut le sentir dans les dents, pas juste en fond pendant qu'on fait la vaisselle.

The project is basically a rotating collective of 90s veterans and new indie blood, which keeps the whole thing unpredictable. It's guitar-heavy, a bit rough around the edges, and smells like studio sweat despite the thousands of miles between the members. They aren't over-polishing this stuff, and it shows.

Word is they're going to be hitting us with new material all through 2026. If they keep finding collaborators this solid, it's going to be a hell of a year for them. Le projet est essentiellement un collectif tournant de vétérans des années 90 et de nouvelles têtes indie, ce qui rend le tout imprévisible. C'est centré sur la guitare, un peu brut sur les bords, et ça sent la sueur de studio malgré les milliers de kilomètres entre les membres. Ils ne surpolissent pas, et ça se sent.

Paraît qu'ils vont nous bombarder de nouveaux morceaux tout au long de 2026. S'ils continuent à trouver des collaborateurs aussi solides, leur année va être sacrément bonne.

I've been playing "Cold" on loop as the sun slowly climbed over the garden. In a good way. It's rare to find a track that captures that specific atmosphere without feeling cheesy, the kind that makes you want to pour a second cup of black coffee and just stare at the wall for a bit. \m/

J'ai tourné « Cold » en boucle pendant que le soleil montait lentement au‑dessus du jardin. Dans le bon sens du terme.
