POP/HARDCORE THERAPY – 37 MINUTES OF RAW ENERGY

I spun the new The Water Gun Project (TWGP) record, "And how did that make you feel?", today, and honestly? It felt damn good. It was exactly the kind of kick in the teeth I needed.
J’ai écouté le nouveau disque de The Water Gun Project (TWGP), « And how did that make you feel ? », aujourd’hui, et honnêtement ? C’était sacrément bon. C’était exactement le coup de pied dans les dents dont j’avais besoin.
That's a hell of a title for an album, isn't it? It's the kind of thing you'd expect to hear from a shrink on a leather couch, not something you'd see on a record cover. But after blasting through the 10 tracks on this debut, it actually starts to make sense. Listening to this isn't just listening to music; it's like a 37-minute therapy session where the cure is high-voltage Pop/Hardcore.
C’est un sacré titre pour un album, non ? C’est le genre de chose qu’on attend d’un psy sur un canapé en cuir, pas sur une pochette. Mais après avoir déchiré les 10 titres de ce premier album, ça commence à avoir du sens. Écouter ça, ce n’est pas juste écouter de la musique ; c’est une session de thérapie de 37 minutes où le remède, c’est du Pop/Hardcore à haute tension.
They're playing with fire here, mixing Pop and Hardcore is usually a recipe for disaster, but these guys somehow nail it. It's got that raw, 90s-era fervor, but it doesn't sound like they're just trying to live in the past. It's electric, saturated, and feels incredibly human.
Ils jouent avec le feu, mélanger Pop et Hardcore est généralement une recette pour le désastre, mais ces gars réussissent. Il y a cette ferveur brute des années 90, sans donner l’impression de revivre le passé. C’est électrique, saturé, et incroyablement humain.
What I really dig about this record is that it's not just "noise for the sake of noise." They're clearly using the music to process the messy stuff. You've got tracks like "Phoenix" that nail that feeling of rebirth by fire, and "Sorority," which is an absolute powerhouse of a feminist anthem. They aren't just singing about themselves, either, they've got stuff in here about the fight against Huntington's disease. It's rare to find a band that can hit that hard and still clearly give a damn about the world outside their practice space.
Ce que j’aime vraiment dans ce disque, c’est que ce n’est pas juste du « bruit pour le bruit ». Ils utilisent clairement la musique pour gérer les trucs compliqués. Il y a des morceaux comme « Phoenix » qui capturent cette renaissance par le feu, et « Sorority », un véritable hymne féministe. Ils ne chantent pas seulement pour eux non plus : ils évoquent la lutte contre la maladie de Huntington. C’est rare de trouver un groupe qui frappe aussi fort tout en se souciant du monde extérieur.
If you're looking for a starting point, check out the mystical, hypnotic vibe of "Chamans," or just go straight for "Tempted", that track gets under your skin immediately.
Si vous cherchez un point d’entrée, écoutez l’ambiance mystique et hypnotique de « Chamans », ou allez directement à « Tempted », ce morceau vous colle à la peau immédiatement.
Bottom line: 37 minutes later, you don't feel like you've just heard a debut album; you feel like you've been through the wringer and come out the other side. You're shaken, you're awake, and you're probably going to hit play again.
En résumé : 37 minutes plus tard, on n’a pas l’impression de venir d’écouter un premier album ; on a l’impression d’avoir été essoré et d’en être ressorti. On est secoué, réveillé, et on va probablement remettre ça.
