Dépérir has a pretty chaotic history, as detailed in the "DEPERIR BIO 2026.pdf" file. They started in France back in 2011, packed up and moved to Quebec piece by piece, went through an airline pilot drummer crisis, and somehow kept firing. They just dropped their new short-sharp-shock War EP via Adipocere Records on May 20th, 2026. They actually just wrapped up their first tour across France and Belgium a few days ago on May 25th, finishing up at Lions Metal Fest. So if you missed them live, you've only got the studio mess to keep you company.
Dépérir a une histoire assez chaotique. Ils ont commencé en France en 2011, ont tout emballé pour déménager au Québec, ont traversé une crise de batteur devenu pilote de ligne, et ont continué tant bien que mal. Ils viennent de sortir leur EP court et explosif War via Adipocere Records le 20 mai 2026. Ils ont fini leur première tournée en France et Belgique il y a quelques jours, le 25 mai, terminant au Lions Metal Fest. Donc si vous les avez ratés en live, il ne vous reste que le bazar studio pour vous tenir compagnie.
It's only four tracks, but they punch incredibly hard. They kicked things off with a single called "Blood Spill" which apparently got restricted for under-18s on YouTube because of graphic historical gore. That's always great PR. The song itself is just pure, ugly metal energy. Then you get tracks like "Cold War," "Payback," and "CCCP". It's fast, relentlessly bleak, and smells like old-school death metal dirt.
Il n'y a que quatre morceaux, mais ils frappent incroyablement fort. Ils ont commencé avec un single, « Blood Spill », qui a été restreint aux moins de 18 ans sur YouTube à cause de scènes historiques gores. C'est toujours bon pour la promo. Le morceau lui-même est une énergie metal pure et moche. Puis on a « Cold War », « Payback » et « CCCP ». C'est rapide, d'un pessimisme implacable, et ça sent la crasse du death metal old-school.
The band went through another drummer change to get this stuff written last year, but Nico and his crew still know how to write a massive riff. It doesn't have the fancy session drummers of their Black Beast era, but it feels way hungrier. The production is thick and aggressive, hitting you square in the chest instead of floating around in some technical ether. It isn't trying to change the world or win a prize for complexity. It's just blunt, heavy warfare.
Le groupe a connu un nouveau changement de batteur pour écrire ce matériel l'année dernière, mais Nico et son équipe savent toujours écrire un riff massif. Il n'y a pas les batteurs de session sophistiqués de leur époque Black Beast, mais c'est bien plus affamé. La production est épaisse et agressive, frappant en plein dans la poitrine au lieu de flotter dans un éther technique. Il n'essaie pas de changer le monde ou de gagner un prix de complexité. C'est juste une guerre lourde et brutale.
