I've been tracking the Indian scene for a while, and Eternal Returns is the kind of band that makes you realize just how much noise is coming out of that part of the world right now. Their new video for "Salver the Fray" isn't trying to be your friend. It's a jagged, uncomfortable piece of work that pulls from their latest record, All But Us.

What I actually like about this track is that it feels tense. It's got that Melodic Death Metal foundation, but it's played with this frantic, nervous energy that reminds me more of a panic attack than a studio session. It's not "pretty" melody; it's the kind of melody that feels like a warning.

Shankul Chavan, the band's guitarist, handled the production himself, and you can tell he didn't want to polish out the rough edges. It sounds thick, heavy, and a bit claustrophobic. There's a moment where the chaos almost feels like it's going to collapse under its own weight, but they keep it clamped down just enough to keep it punishing.

If you've been bored with the "standard" extreme metal formula lately, this is a solid reminder that there's still plenty of grit to be found if you look toward the East. Brutal Records USA picked a good one here.
