So, Austria's My Dark Fate basically hit the reset button last year. Lineup changes, full reboot, the whole deal. They're independent now, doing everything entirely in-house. Guitarist Andreas Maierhofer, who started this back in 2019 after his time in Lost Dreams, is literally doing all the tracking, producing, mixing, mastering, and even the management. It's a ridiculous amount of work. Sometimes self-produced stuff sounds like it was recorded in a tin can, but this actually holds up.
Les Autrichiens de My Dark Fate ont en quelque sorte appuyé sur le bouton reset l'année dernière. Changements de line-up, reboot complet, tout le tralala. Ils sont désormais indépendants, gérant tout en interne. Le guitariste Andreas Maierhofer, qui a lancé le projet en 2019 après son passage chez Lost Dreams, s'occupe littéralement de l'enregistrement, de la production, du mix, du mastering et même du management. Une quantité de travail énorme. Parfois, les productions maison sonnent comme si elles étaient enregistrées dans une boîte de conserve, mais ici, ça tient la route.
They dropped two twin singles recently to show off the new era. "Whiteout" came out back in November, and then "Frightened to the Core" landed right at the start of January. There's more music coming later this year, plus videos in Q2, apparently.
Ils ont sorti deux singles jumeaux récemment pour montrer la nouvelle ère. « Whiteout » est sorti en novembre, et « Frightened to the Core » est arrivé début janvier. Apparemment, d'autres morceaux arrivent cette année, ainsi que des vidéos au deuxième trimestre.
"Whiteout" is weird. It's this icy, slow-burning metal ballad thing that Andreas and some guy named Herbert Sopracolle wrote years ago. Marina wrote the lyrics about her dad surviving the 1,000-mile Iditarod Trail in Alaska. It's cold. You can feel that shivering atmosphere in the riffs. Then you flip to "Frightened to the Core" and it's a completely different vibe: way punchier, upbeat groove metal mixed with melodeath. Stefan wrote the words for that one, screaming about modern fear-mongering.
« Whiteout » est bizarre. C'est une ballade metal glaciale à combustion lente qu'Andreas et un certain Herbert Sopracolle ont écrite il y a des années. Marina a écrit les paroles sur son père qui a survécu à la piste Iditarod de 1 600 km en Alaska. C'est froid. On sent cette ambiance glaciale dans les riffs. Puis on passe à « Frightened to the Core », une ambiance complètement différente : bien plus percutante, du groove metal enlevé mêlé de melodeath. Stefan a écrit les paroles de celui-ci, hurlant contre la peur moderne manipulatrice.

The dual-vocal thing is the main focus here. Stefan growls, Marina does the clean hooks while holding down the bass. Christian's drums and Andreas's guitar work keep it all moving. It definitely aims for that Jinjer, Lacuna Coil, or Amaranthe crowd. It gets a bit formulaic with the whole call-and-response vocal trope, sure. But the sheer grit of them refusing to compromise or beg a label makes it worth your time.
Le double chant est l'élément central ici. Stefan grogne, Marina assure les refrains clairs tout en tenant la basse. La batterie de Christian et la guitare d'Andreas font avancer le tout. Cela cible clairement le public de Jinjer, Lacuna Coil ou Amaranthe. C'est un peu formulaïque avec ce jeu d'appel et réponse vocal, certes. Mais la pure obstination à ne pas faire de compromis ni mendier un label rend l'ensemble digne d'intérêt.
