MESSY, LOUD, AND ACTUALLY GOOD – ALT ROCK BRUT

I've had "Miss You Every Day" on for an hour and honestly, it's a bit of a gut-punch. It doesn't have that shiny, over-produced rock ego: it just sounds tired and angry. Arnaud-Pierre Clare's vocals on the chorus aren't even trying to be a "big radio moment." It's just him yelling because he's losing someone, and you can hear the strain. It's got that grimy Nirvana vibe, but Boman's mix makes the whole thing feel twice as big as it should be.

J'écoute « Miss You Every Day » depuis une heure et honnêtement, c'est un coup de poing. Il n'a pas cet ego rock brillant et surproduit : il a l'air fatigué et en colère. La voix d'Arnaud-Pierre Clare sur le refrain n'essaie même pas d'être un « grand moment radio ». C'est juste lui qui crie parce qu'il perd quelqu'un, et on entend l'effort. Il y a cette vibe Nirvana crasseuse, mais le mix de Boman rend tout deux fois plus grand qu'il ne devrait l'être.

The guitar work from Jérémy De Bels is dark and moody in the verses, but then the rhythm section (Cenatiempo and Darquenne) just starts hammering away. It's not "technical" in a boring way; it just feels like the walls are finally coming down. There's a line about using "silence like a disguise" that's been stuck in my head, it's the kind of thing you only write when you've actually been through a shouting match that went on too long.

Ce n'est pas « technique » d'une manière ennuyeuse ; on a juste l'impression que les murs s'écroulent enfin. Il y a une phrase sur l'utilisation du « silence comme un déguisement » qui m'est restée en tête, c'est le genre de chose qu'on n'écrit que quand on a vraiment vécu une dispute qui a duré trop longtemps.

I don't care about "cool" rock anymore. I want stuff that feels like a physical bruise, and this is it. If the rest of the Black Mountain record (out May 22nd) is this raw, my neighbors are going to hate me. They tracked this at KOKO and VintageRig, but it sounds like it happened in a basement after a bad night. It's exactly what I needed.

Je me moque du rock « cool » maintenant. Je veux des trucs qui ressemblent à un bleu physique, et c'est le cas. Si le reste du disque Black Mountain (sortie le 22 mai) est aussi brut, mes voisins vont me détester. Ils ont enregistré ça au KOKO et VintageRig, mais ça sonne comme si c'était arrivé dans un sous‑sol après une mauvaise nuit. C'est exactement ce qu'il me fallait.
