A BOXING CHAMPION ON A GROOVE METAL TRACK? SURE, WHY NOT.
I was scrolling through my old playlists from last year and "Never Fail" popped up. I totally forgot Bent by Sorrow managed to get Medusa, the two-time world boxing champion, to guest on a track. It's completely random, but honestly, her spot gives the track this weird, aggressive spike that actually makes it stand out.
Je parcourais mes vieilles playlists de l'année dernière quand « Never Fail » est réapparu. J'avais totalement oublié que Bent by Sorrow avait réussi à faire participer Medusa, championne du monde de boxe à deux reprises, sur un morceau. C'est complètement aléatoire, mais honnêtement, sa présence donne au morceau ce pic étrange et agressif qui le fait vraiment sortir du lot.
The whole album, Sakura, dropped back in May 2025 on Brutal Records, and re-listening to it now, it's a strange beast. These guys, Pantelis, Giannakis, Yiannis, and Vaios, are trapped in a 2000s time warp. The promo sheet claims they sound like a mix of Deftones, Soilwork, and Disturbed. That sounds like an absolute trainwreck, and to be fair, sometimes it almost is. Some of these groove riffs feel like stuff you've heard a million times before on old Roadrunner compilation CDs.
L'album entier, Sakura, est sorti en mai 2025 chez Brutal Records, et en le réécoutant aujourd'hui, c'est une bête étrange. Ces gars, Pantelis, Giannakis, Yiannis et Vaios, sont coincés dans une faille temporelle des années 2000. La fiche promo prétend qu'ils sonnent comme un mélange de Deftones, Soilwork et Disturbed. Ça ressemble à un désastre absolu, et pour être honnête, parfois ça l'est presque. Certains de ces riffs groove, on a l'impression de les avoir entendus des millions de fois sur les vieux CD de compilations Roadrunner.
Yet, Fotis Benardo produced this at Devasoundz Studios, and he made the drums and guitars sound incredibly thick. It's heavy as hell. It has this sweaty, small-club energy that explains why bands like Nile, Crowbar, and Harakiri for the Sky had these guys opening for them. Songs like "The Machine" or "Demoncracy" don't reinvent the wheel, but they hit hard enough to make you want to break something in your living room.
Pourtant, Fotis Benardo a produit ça aux Devasoundz Studios, et il a rendu les batteries et les guitares incroyablement épaisses. C'est lourd comme l'enfer. Il y a cette énergie moite de petite salle qui explique pourquoi des groupes comme Nile, Crowbar et Harakiri for the Sky les ont eus en première partie. Des morceaux comme « The Machine » ou « Demoncracy » ne réinventent pas la roue, mais ils frappent assez fort pour donner envie de casser quelque chose dans votre salon.
If you completely slept on this 11-track digital drop last year, go check their Bandcamp. It's a messy, nostalgic piece of Greek groove that deserved more ears in 2025.
