New Release: Buy Jupiter

NOT SURE ABOUT THE SPACE OPERA, BUT THE RIFFS ARE REAL

Thirteen years. Buy Jupiter has apparently spent over a decade building a massive sci-fi concept universe based on an Isaac Asimov short story, and their new album EARTH is the final chapter. They've even written companion short stories for every single track.

Treize ans. Buy Jupiter a apparemment passé plus d'une décennie à construire un univers conceptuel de science-fiction basé sur une nouvelle d'Isaac Asimov, et leur nouvel album EARTH en est le chapitre final. Ils ont même écrit des nouvelles compagnons pour chaque morceau.

I'll be honest: I haven't read a single word of them, and I probably won't. I still have no idea if this whole Jovian exile storyline is brilliant or just completely ridiculous, but the opening of "Embrace Of The Serpent God" carries the whole thing on its back anyway.

Je vais être honnête : je n'en ai pas lu un seul mot, et je ne le ferai probablement pas. Je ne sais toujours pas si toute cette histoire d'exil jovien est brillante ou complètement ridicule, mais l'ouverture de « Embrace Of The Serpent God » porte tout le reste sur ses épaules.

The press release throwing around names like Meshuggah and Between The Buried And Me usually makes me skeptical, but this actually hits that weird, jagged sweet spot. It's got that heavy, mathy bounce where you completely lose track of the rhythm if you try to think about it too hard, so it's better to just stop trying. I don't really care about the conceptual "narrative coherence" they're pushing, but the sheer technical aggression on this thing is solid.

Le communiqué de presse qui balance des noms comme Meshuggah et Between The Buried And Me me rend généralement sceptique, mais là, ça touche cette zone étrange et déchiquetée. Il y a ce bounce lourd et mathématique où on perd complètement le fil du rythme si on essaie de trop réfléchir, donc mieux vaut arrêter d'essayer. La « cohérence narrative » conceptuelle qu'ils mettent en avant, je m'en fiche un peu, mais l'agression technique brute sur ce disque est solide.

It's dense, it's a bit exhausting, and I'm definitely not going to deep-dive into thirteen years of lore today, but as a straight-up metal record, it does exactly what it needs to do.

C'est dense, un peu épuisant, et je ne vais certainement pas me plonger dans treize ans de lore aujourd'hui, mais en tant qu'album de metal pur et simple, il fait exactement ce qu'il doit faire.
