WHY AM I STILL LISTENING TO THIS 2025 SINGLE?

This track came out nine months ago. Nine months. In internet time, that's ancient history, and frankly, I have about newer promos screaming for attention in my inbox right now. Yet, here I am, staring at my speakers while "Blink Of An Eye" plays for the third time today.

Ce morceau est sorti il y a neuf mois. Neuf mois. Dans le temps internet, c'est de l'histoire ancienne, et franchement, j'ai des promos plus récentes qui réclament mon attention dans ma boîte mail. Pourtant, me voilà, à fixer mes enceintes pendant que « Blink Of An Eye » passe pour la troisième fois aujourd'hui.

It's making me deeply uncomfortable because Engineered Society Project represents everything that usually bores me to tears. They've been around since 2014 doing that specific brand of American metal that tries so hard to be "socially conscious" and heavy at the same time. Usually, that just means a lot of recycling.

Ça me met profondément mal à l'aise parce que Engineered Society Project représente tout ce qui, d'habitude, m'ennuie à mourir. Ils existent depuis 2014 et font cette marque spécifique de metal américain qui essaie trop d'être « socialement conscient » et lourd à la fois. En général, ça donne juste beaucoup de recyclage.

But there is this one specific guitar lead halfway through the track. It doesn't sound like a clean studio recording; it sounds like the guitarist is accidentally dragging his pick across a live wire while trying to play an old Iron Maiden harmonic. It's completely out of place with how heavy the rest of the rhythm section is trying to be. It's too loud in the mix. It genuinely disrupts the whole modern metalcore aggression they have going on.

Mais il y a ce lead de guitare spécifique à la moitié du morceau. Ça ne sonne pas comme un enregistrement studio propre ; on dirait que le guitariste traîne accidentellement son médiator sur un fil électrique tout en essayant de jouer un harmonique à la vieille Iron Maiden. C'est complètement déplacé par rapport à la lourdeur que le reste de la section rythmique essaie d'atteindre. C'est trop fort dans le mix. Ça perturbe vraiment toute l'agression metalcore moderne qu'ils ont.

And that's exactly why it works. It breaks the factory settings of the song. The lyrics are talking about everything changing in an instant, and for about ten seconds, that weird, piercing guitar actually makes you feel that panic. The rest of the song? Standard, solid, heavy structural stuff. But that one weirdly mixed melodic line is the only reason I didn't delete this file three minutes ago.

Et c'est exactement pourquoi ça fonctionne. Ça brise les réglages d'usine de la chanson. Les paroles parlent de tout ce qui change en un instant, et pendant environ dix secondes, cette guitare étrange et perçante vous fait ressentir cette panique. Le reste de la chanson ? Des trucs standards, solides et lourds. Mais cette ligne mélodique étrangement mixée est la seule raison pour laquelle je n'ai pas supprimé ce fichier il y a trois minutes.
