"Human Disease," the brand new digital single from Italian groove metal outfit Hole in the Frame, which just dropped via Volcano Records. The band has been grinding in the underground since 2015, but this new track comes with a bit of a twist: it was produced across a transatlantic axis, splitting the work between Italy and the United States.

When you look at the credits and see that the artistic production and arrangements were handled by Fabrizio Grossi, a guy known for working with massive rock icons like Slash, Alice Cooper, and Joe Bonamassa, you automatically expect a very specific, polished radio-rock shine. But the moment the track kicks in, it goes in a completely different direction. It leans heavily into that gritty, late-90s crossover groove metal territory, throwing out sharp riffs and a constant tension that clearly tries to channel the spirit of Pantera, Slipknot, and Korn. The mix, which was handled back in Italy, keeps things raw and powerful enough to match the aggressive style, though the massive modern production weight occasionally feels a bit too clean for a track trying to sound this disillusioned.

Lyrically, the press kit explains that the song is a direct attack on contemporary society, portraying humanity as a moral and spiritual disease fueled by selfishness and indifference. There's a whole psychological concept attached to the official music video too, focusing on a protagonist collapsing into isolation and alienation. Honestly, trying to follow a deep narrative about collective social awareness while watching a dude lose his mind in a dark room is a lot of conceptual weight for a four-minute track. I eventually checked out of the philosophical sermon entirely because the headbang reflex just took over. It's the kind of track where you stop trying to read the subtitles of the video and just let the blunt-force momentum hit you square in the jaw. It doesn't pretend to reinvent the genre, but it bounces exactly where it needs to.

Honnêtement, essayer de suivre un récit profond sur la conscience sociale collective tout en regardant un mec perdre la tête dans une pièce sombre, c'est beaucoup de poids conceptuel pour un morceau de quatre minutes. J'ai fini par décrocher complètement du sermon philosophique parce que le réflexe du headbang a pris le dessus. C'est le genre de morceau où on arrête d'essayer de lire les sous-titres de la vidéo et on se laisse frapper en pleine mâchoire par l'élan brutal. Il ne prétend pas réinventer le genre, mais il frappe exactement où il faut.
