VIOLIN-LED METAL FROM PARIS THAT ESCAPES THE USUAL SYMPHONIC TRAP
The crew just spent a good chunk of the afternoon digging through "Unbecoming," the upcoming single from Parisian modern metal outfit Knightress. It's set to drop on July 3rd, 2026, serving as the lead-in for their next full-length album, The Sentient Condition, which Francis Caste engineered over at Studio Sainte Marthe for a November release.

Il doit sortir le 3 juillet 2026, en guise d'introduction à leur prochain album The Sentient Condition, que Francis Caste a enregistré au Studio Sainte Marthe pour une sortie en novembre.
Whenever a metal band brands themselves as "violin-led," you usually brace your ears for that over-the-top, overly cinematic Nightwish or Therion style where the orchestration completely suffocates the rhythm section. With this track, I was fully expecting that clean, polite classical overlay, but the moment the distortion kicks in, the strings actually scratch and bite their way through the mix. Emily Palen's violin handles the leads and solos, but instead of sounding like a cheap symphonic gimmick, it cuts through Leo Caviglioli's guitar work with this weird, sharp energy that feels genuinely aggressive.
Quand un groupe de metal se revendique « mené par le violon », on s'attend généralement à ce style Nightwish ou Therion trop cinématographique où l'orchestration étouffe complètement la section rythmique. Sur ce morceau, je m'attendais à ce voile classique propre et poli, mais dès que la distorsion s'installe, les cordes grattent et mordent le mix. Le violon d'Emily Palen assure les leads et les solos, mais au lieu de sonner comme un gadget symphonique bon marché, il traverse le travail de guitare de Leo Caviglioli avec cette énergie étrange et acérée qui semble vraiment agressive.

The press kit gets pretty heavy on the philosophical side, talking about social conditioning, karmic weight, and multi-dimensional creative strength. To be completely honest, while watching the video directed by Julien Metternich, featuring some Berlin artist named Robespierre Baker playing dark illusions, I totally lost track of the deep concept and just found myself focusing on how tight Prosper Duffours' drumming holds the chaos together. The mix lets the clean vocals and the violin sit right on top of a surprisingly brutal, progressive baseline without turning into a muddy mess.
Le dossier de presse est assez lourd sur le plan philosophique : conditionnement social, poids karmique, force créative multidimensionnelle. Pour être honnête, en regardant la vidéo réalisée par Julien Metternich, avec un certain artiste berlinois nommé Robespierre Baker jouant des illusions sombres, j'ai complètement perdu le fil du concept profond et je me suis juste concentré sur la façon dont la batterie de Prosper Duffours maintient le chaos. Le mix laisse les voix claires et le violon se positionner juste au-dessus d'une ligne de basse étonnamment brutale et progressive, sans devenir un brouillard boueux.
