NORDSTRÖM ALMOST RUINED THIS FUCKING RECORD

I still can't decide if I love or absolutely hate what No Worth Of Man did here. The culprit has a name: Fredrik Nordström. Sending a filthy UK metalcore trio, guys who've been rotting in the underground since 2016, to the go-to producer for In Flames and Arch Enemy is a completely unhinged move.

Envoyer un trio de metalcore britannique brut, des gars qui croupissent dans l'underground depuis 2016, chez le producteur attitré d'In Flames et Arch Enemy, est un geste complètement dément.

The result on The Killing Streets genuinely irritated me at first. It's clean. Absurdly clean. The sonics are so clinical it feels like they tracked the whole thing inside a sterile NASA laboratory. It made me furious during the first spin. Like, where is the actual mud from their 2017 Initium Novum EP?

Le son est tellement clinique qu'on a l'impression qu'ils ont tout enregistré dans un laboratoire stérile de la NASA. J'étais furieux au premier tour. Genre, où est la véritable boue de leur EP Initium Novum de 2017 ?

But then the track cuts in. Alex Punchard's guitars hit with this specific riff that sounds like a circular saw getting stuck in a block of solid concrete. That's when the penny drops. This ultra-surgical mix is actually a guillotine. Instead of drowning Peter Gale's vocals in a generic wall of distortion, the production isolates every single scream right against your eardrum. It's deeply uncomfortable. Gareth Lucas hits his cymbals with the terrifying regularity of a psychopathic metronome, turning the entire album into this cold, industrial war machine.

C'est profondément inconfortable. Gareth Lucas frappe ses cymbales avec la régularité terrifiante d'un métronome psychopathe, transformant tout l'album en cette machine de guerre froide et industrielle.

Brutal Records put this out on February 13th. Purists who want their groove metal caked in dirt are probably going to call it a betrayal. I get it. But this weird obsession with mechanical precision ends up being totally hypnotic anyway.
