So Helsinki's Rugged Butcher just dropped their third single, "Battle Inside." Honestly, the whole press release talks about this big concept ; their ongoing band mascot character fighting internal mental battles and taking things to the next level, but I haven't even paid attention to the lyrics yet. I'm completely stuck on the opening. Mikko Aittola mentioned in the notes that Timo came up with the intro riff, and yeah, it's the absolute high point of the track. It's got this immediate, heavy as hell, classic rock-metal punch that just works.
Les Helsinkiens de Rugged Butcher viennent de sortir leur troisième single, « Battle Inside ». Honnêtement, tout le communiqué de presse parle d'un grand concept, leur mascotte fictive qui lutte mentalement, mais je n'ai même pas prêté attention aux paroles. Je suis complètement bloqué sur l'intro. Mikko Aittola mentionne dans les notes que Timo a trouvé le riff d'intro, et c'est clairement le point culminant du morceau. Il y a ce punch immédiat, lourd comme l'enfer, ce rock-metal classique qui fonctionne parfaitement.
The whole thing sounds huge, which makes sense since Teemu Aalto handled the mix and Tony Lindgren mastered it at Fascination Street. You can tell they poured money or at least a lot of time into making those guitars sound as crushing as possible. It's definitely more melodic than their previous stuff, but they didn't sacrifice the weight.
L'ensemble sonne énorme, ce qui a du sens puisque Teemu Aalto s'est occupé du mix et Tony Lindgren du mastering à Fascination Street. On sent qu'ils ont investi beaucoup d'argent ou au moins beaucoup de temps pour rendre ces guitares aussi écrasantes. C'est définitivement plus mélodique que leurs anciens morceaux, mais ils n'ont pas sacrifié la lourdeur.
Mikko and Timo have been playing together in different bands for over 30 years, and honestly, that's probably why the transitions feel so tight. It doesn't sound like a modern internet project; it sounds like two guys who know exactly how to lock into a groove together. The middle section drags a little bit for me compared to that killer opening, but every time that main guitar hook comes back around, it saves it.
Mikko et Timo jouent ensemble depuis plus de 30 ans dans différents groupes, et honnêtement, c'est probablement pourquoi les transitions sont si serrées. Ça ne sonne pas comme un projet internet moderne ; ça sonne comme deux gars qui savent exactement comment se caler sur un groove. La section centrale traîne un peu à mon goût par rapport à cette intro tueuse, mais à chaque fois que le riff principal revient, ça sauve tout.
