The Belgian quintet has unveiled an acoustic version of "Like Dying Ferns", renamed "Tattered Lanterns", and the result is much more than a simple live performance. It feels like a small gothic tale filmed between the walls of a place where history, beauty and something slightly unsettling come together.

The concept behind the video immediately caught my attention. Welcomed into the museum by their own frontwoman Lady IX, the band begins what appears to be an intimate performance. But, as expected from Hyldr, things quickly take a darker turn. One by one, her bandmates fall victim to her poison, becoming part of the museum's collection forever. Their final destination is not a stage, but a display case. It is a strange, macabre idea, but one that fits the band's universe perfectly.

Without the weight of their usual doom metal arrangements, "Tattered Lanterns" reveals another side of Hyldr. The acoustic guitars, delicate piano parts and Lady IX's expressive vocals create a much more fragile atmosphere. The heaviness is still there, but it no longer comes from distortion or volume. It comes from the emotion behind every note.
