Flashback 2024: Logical Terror - "Here Comes The Rain Again"
AN INDUSTRIAL METAL REIMAGINING OF A EURYTHMICS CLASSIC
Some songs feel almost untouchable. Eurythmics' "Here Comes The Rain Again" has always been one of those tracks for me. Its atmosphere is so distinctive that covering it can easily become an exercise in imitation. That's probably why I was curious to revisit the version Logical Terror released back in early 2024.
Certaines chansons semblent presque intouchables. « Here Comes The Rain Again » d'Eurythmics a toujours fait partie de ces morceaux pour moi. Son atmosphère est si distinctive que la reprendre peut facilement devenir un exercice d'imitation. C'est probablement pourquoi j'étais curieux de revisiter la version que Logical Terror avait sortie début 2024.
Instead of trying to recreate the original, the Italian band takes it somewhere completely different. The familiar melody is still there, but everything surrounding it has changed. The synth‑driven melancholy gives way to thick guitars, pounding rhythms and an industrial edge that feels surprisingly natural.
Au lieu d'essayer de recréer l'original, le groupe italien l'emmène dans un tout autre endroit. La mélodie familière est toujours là, mais tout ce qui l'entoure a changé. La mélancolie synthétique cède la place à des guitares épaisses, des rythmes percutants et une touche industrielle qui semble étonnamment naturelle.
What I liked most is that Logical Terror never falls into the trap of making the song heavier just for the sake of it. Plenty of metal covers simply add distortion and double‑kick drums, hoping that's enough. Here, the band actually reimagines the atmosphere. The sadness remains, but it comes across differently. Less fragile, perhaps, and more restrained, as if the emotion had been buried beneath layers of steel and concrete.
Ce que j'ai le plus apprécié, c'est que Logical Terror ne tombe jamais dans le piège de rendre la chanson plus lourde juste pour le plaisir. Beaucoup de reprises metal ajoutent simplement de la distorsion et des double‑kick, espérant que cela suffise. Ici, le groupe réinvente réellement l'atmosphère. La tristesse demeure, mais elle se manifeste différemment. Moins fragile, peut‑être, et plus retenue, comme si l'émotion avait été enfouie sous des couches d'acier et de béton.
The first time I heard it, I wasn't entirely convinced. Maybe that's because the original version has been part of my playlist for so many years. But after another listen, and then another, I started appreciating how naturally the arrangement works. Rather than competing with Annie Lennox's unforgettable performance, Logical Terror wisely builds its own identity around the song.
La première fois que je l'ai entendue, je n'étais pas entièrement convaincu. Peut‑être parce que la version originale fait partie de ma playlist depuis tant d'années. Mais après une autre écoute, puis encore une, j'ai commencé à apprécier la façon dont l'arrangement fonctionne naturellement. Plutôt que de rivaliser avec la performance inoubliable d'Annie Lennox, Logical Terror construit intelligemment sa propre identité autour de la chanson.
You can hear influences from modern melodic metal and industrial music throughout the track. Fans of bands like Soilwork, In Flames or Fear Factory will probably feel at home, but the cover never sounds like a simple tribute to those influences either. It remains recognisably Logical Terror.
On entend des influences du metal mélodique moderne et de la musique industrielle tout au long du morceau. Les fans de groupes comme Soilwork, In Flames ou Fear Factory se sentiront probablement chez eux, mais la reprise ne sonne jamais comme un simple hommage à ces influences non plus. Elle reste reconnaissable comme Logical Terror.
What surprised me most is how well this reinterpretation has aged. More than two years after its release, it still sounds fresh, and that's probably the best compliment you can give a cover. It respects the original without becoming dependent on it. If you haven't heard this version yet, it's well worth spending a few minutes with it. Even if, like me, you have a soft spot for the Eurythmics classic, there's enough personality here to justify the journey.
Ce qui m'a le plus surpris, c'est à quel point cette réinterprétation a bien vieilli. Plus de deux ans après sa sortie, elle sonne toujours fraîche, et c'est probablement le plus beau compliment que l'on puisse faire à une reprise. Elle respecte l'original sans en devenir dépendante. Si vous n'avez pas encore entendu cette version, elle mérite vraiment que vous y consacriez quelques minutes. Même si, comme moi, vous avez un faible pour le classique d'Eurythmics, il y a assez de personnalité ici pour justifier le voyage.
