LIGHT AND SHADOW – STONER ROCK AVEC UNE ÂME
Stoner rock is one of those genres I always come back to, but let's be honest: finding a new band that genuinely sticks isn't as easy as it used to be. Then Saturna's new single, "Self Told Lies," landed in my playlist and reminded me why I keep digging through new releases. It's the first taste of their upcoming album Light And Shadow, due out on September 17th, 2026, and it's a seriously strong introduction.
Le stoner rock fait partie de ces genres auxquels je reviens toujours, mais soyons honnêtes : trouver un nouveau groupe qui vous marque vraiment n'est plus aussi facile qu'avant. Puis le nouveau single de Saturna, « Self Told Lies », a atterri dans ma playlist et m'a rappelé pourquoi je continue à fouiller les nouvelles sorties. C'est le premier aperçu de leur prochain album Light And Shadow, prévu pour le 17 septembre 2026, et c'est une introduction sérieusement solide.
The first thing that grabbed me was James Vieco's voice. He's got one of those big, gravel-soaked deliveries that instantly brings Chris Cornell to mind without ever feeling like a copy. Around him, the band builds a groove that sits somewhere between Soundgarden and Black Sabbath, heavy enough to shake the room but loose enough to let every riff breathe.
La première chose qui m'a frappé, c'est la voix de James Vieco. Il a une de ces grandes voix graveleuses qui rappellent instantanément Chris Cornell sans jamais donner l'impression d'une copie. Autour de lui, le groupe construit un groove qui se situe quelque part entre Soundgarden et Black Sabbath, assez lourd pour faire trembler la pièce mais assez décontracté pour laisser chaque riff respirer.
Saturna have been around since 2010, growing out of ideas first put together by bassist Rod, and you can hear that experience throughout the song. Nothing feels forced. The rhythm section settles into the groove naturally, while the guitars weave subtle psychedelic textures through the classic hard rock backbone instead of simply piling on distortion.
Saturna existe depuis 2010, né d'idées du bassiste Rod, et on entend cette expérience tout au long du morceau. Rien ne semble forcé. La section rythmique s'installe naturellement dans le groove, tandis que les guitares tissent des textures psychédéliques subtiles à travers la colonne vertébrale du hard rock classique, au lieu de simplement accumuler de la distorsion.
There's a warmth to the production that avoids the over-polished, clinical sound so many modern rock records fall into, giving the whole track a lived-in, organic feel.
Il y a une chaleur dans la production qui évite le son surpolie et clinique de tant de disques de rock modernes, donnant à l'ensemble un côté vécu et organique.
If the rest of Light And Shadow manages to keep this balance between weight, melody and atmosphere, September suddenly looks a lot more interesting. Needless to say, this album has earned a place on my watch list.
Si le reste de Light And Shadow parvient à garder cet équilibre entre poids, mélodie et atmosphère, septembre s'annonce soudainement beaucoup plus intéressant. Inutile de dire que cet album a gagné sa place sur ma liste de surveillance.
