LORE – POST-HARDCORE PROGRESSIF AVEC UNE ÂME
Labeling your music a mixture of post-hardcore, alt-rock, progressive metal, and standard heavy metal is a massive red flag. Most groups attempting that kind of scattershot blend end up sounding like a disjointed playlist on shuffle. Vermont's Shiny New Toyz dropped their second EP, LORE, and surprisingly, they actually manage to glue these messy fragments together into something cohesive.

Shiny New Toyz, du Vermont, a sorti son deuxième EP, LORE, et étonnamment, ils parviennent à coller ces fragments chaotiques en quelque chose de cohérent.
Suzie Tremblay leads the charge here with a vocal performance that holds nothing back. The tracks dive deep into some heavy themes around grief and rage, and Tremblay's delivery sounds completely primal and genuine, easily dodging the sterile, over-polished tropes of the modern scene. Behind her, the guitar pair of Shawn Toussaint and John Notaro builds these massive, dense walls of sound that carry a heavy, moody swing heavily reminiscent of White Pony-era Deftones or classic Alice in Chains.
Suzie Tremblay mène la charge avec une performance vocale qui ne retient rien. Les morceaux explorent des thèmes lourds autour du chagrin et de la rage, et la prestation de Tremblay sonne complètement primale et authentique, évitant facilement les tropes stériles et surpolis de la scène moderne. Derrière elle, les guitaristes Shawn Toussaint et John Notaro construisent ces murs de sons massifs et denses qui portent un swing lourd et mélancolique rappelant fortement l'ère White Pony des Deftones ou le Alice in Chains classique.
Vincent Freeman handled the mix over at The Underground Recording Studio, while Michel Doucet took care of the mastering. The resulting sonic space feels huge. The rhythm section, Brad Woodward on bass and Forrest Thomas on drums, keeps the complex progressive shifts locked down tight, giving the songs a solid, punchy foundation so the melodies can breathe without losing their aggressive edge.
