Branding gimmicks aside, what actually matters is how the record hits when you turn off the screen. I was a bit skeptical when I first saw the "couture" tagline, half‑expecting style over substance. But once tracks like "Hate Me" and "Shadow of Life" kick in, the music actually holds up. The guitars are heavy and polished, while the vocals and orchestration give the whole thing that big, modern symphonic‑metal feel in the vein of Evanescence or Delain. The production by Chris Themelco gives the rhythm section enough weight that the symphonic elements don't swallow the heavy edge.

J'étais un peu sceptique en voyant le slogan « couture », m'attendant à moitié à du style sans substance. Mais dès que des morceaux comme « Hate Me » et « Shadow of Life » démarrent, la musique tient ses promesses. Les guitares sont lourdes et polies, tandis que les voix et l'orchestration donnent à l'ensemble ce grand feeling de metal symphonique moderne dans la veine d'Evanescence ou Delain. La production de Chris Themelco donne à la section rythmique assez de poids pour que les éléments symphoniques n'engloutissent pas le côté heavy.

There are a few unexpected turns across the eight tracks, most notably a cover of System of a Down's "Aerials" to close out the record. It's a bold choice for a symphonic act, but they manage to adapt the song's quirky tension into their own dramatic framework without ruining what made the original great. It's a very polished debut aimed squarely at a bigger audience, but if you enjoy modern symphonic metal with big hooks and clean production, Motivated By Death delivers a surprisingly solid listen.
