FINNISH MELODIC DEATH PROJECT DELIVERS A SLOW, BROODING MID‑TEMPO CUT WITH RELENTLESS WEIGHT
Finnish melodic death project Crowen, helmed by Esa Uusimaa alongside guitarist Sami Sandberg and session drummer Tuomas Saukkonen, have just dropped their new single "I Live On Darkness And Sorrow". The track sets up a heavy, cyclic guitar loop right from the start. To be honest, I kept waiting for the song to break out into a faster melodeath sprint, but it never really does. Weirdly enough, I stopped looking for that tempo change after a couple of minutes. That heavy, repetitive rhythm section actually does the heavy lifting, creating an oppressive atmosphere where Esa's low vocals sit right in the middle.

After five minutes of that relentless loop, I realized the repetition was the whole point. It doesn't rush, it just locks you in.
